Gunsmithing cerakote question

Re: cerakote question

Most mechanical engravers will cut throught the Cerakote just fine it you are trying to engrave after coating, which doesnt makse sense to me.

If you engrave before you Cerakote the pistol the Cerakote will not fill in engraving that is three thousanths or deeper, as its surface thickness is only .1 mil or one thousandth thick.

Most CNC mechanical type of engravers cut at 5 thousanths or more in depth, so yo should be fine and the edges of the engraving remian crisp.

Re: cerakote question

Thanks guys.

Beanland, are going through it with the diamond or carbide?

Red creek, I am quite familiar with the effects of cerakoting after, but that is going to make it kinda tough to get stainless writing on a coated barrel.
