Alright, didn't know where best to post this one.

Buddy just got one of those new daniel defense bolt guns and is looking to cerakote.

So to beat this probably near dead horse I couldn't find on the search where's a couple good shops?

someplace you all have used and does good work. Everyone's website says the same crap

A one have any recent feedback on http://customguncoatings.com He used to have a reputation for doing very nice work though perhaps perfectionism at the expense of speed. I have a couple of rifles ready to send out and I have been hoping to hear some feed back on peoples recent experiences.

Yes, still does great work. Although not Cerakote, he just finished a project for my wife's rifle. I think it turned out great. He also did a JAE chassis for me a bit over a year ago.

It does take some time, lead time when I did my wife's Bravo chassis was 10-12 weeks. But I'd rather wait to have it done right, then to have a quick but sub-par job done.

10-12 weeks is insane.

In my case it didn't matter as I was still waiting for the action to be manufactured. It still beat the action.

I can see how that would deter others. If it's your primary rifle already in play, then that most likely won't work.

I personally prefer waiting and knowing the job will get done right, too many horror stories of shitty Cerakote/paint jobs. But if you can find a great painter with a short wait, jump on it.

Just check out instagram. Sooo many awesome shops out there. Then call around and see who doesn't want to take your rifle hostage for 12 weeks. I'm considering sending a chassis off to mcmfirearms (https://www.instagram.com/mcm_firearms/) but I think I'll probably go rattle can instead and see what a $15 paint job looks like vs my professionally painted guns.

Yep...Or, do like I did and build your own cerakote finish system. If you use your firearms and have several of them, like most do on this forum, you probably can get into cerakoting for what you would have tied up in money for shops to do it. I personally have redone about 6 of my guns...and at 200 ea plus shipping plus about 14 months I would have had in waiting the 900 bucks I invested was easily worth it.

^ i’d pass on code 1 tactical, atleast for me the quality of work sucked and when I brought that up he turned into an unprofessional jerk-off

Look up C&H custom Firearms, Jon and his partner Kasey do true art, I can send you pics of the rifle he did for me if you’d like

Cerakote is not a hard process but you need the equipment and some good experience for good results. It took me a few years practice before I was ready to start my business. I will not spend the money to get "certified" by Cerakote because I'm pretty sure they won't teach me much after 6 years of experience and I don't need the marketing effect of being certified. There are plenty of small time cerakoters around who do great work and are not trying to be the "top guys" in the business. All my business is word of mouth and repeat business because I am good and I turn work around in two weeks or less. I never advertise because I am as busy as I want to be. I would get on your state gun board and find out who does good work local to you, ask your local gun shops as they know. You'll probably find plenty of options. I have people ship to me from out of state but I am not posting this for your business just to help educate you. You can use one of the top guys that are certified by Cerakote but you will likely pay more and have a longer lead time than a local.

4-5 weeks. heehehahahahahaha

It's like a restaurant on Friday night... the good ones all have a wait to be seated. You don't want to wait, you can go somewhere else but there's probably a reason they don't have a line-up of people waiting to eat there. I know blown deadline is officially licensed to do Multicam patterns. They've done work for the company I'm at and always been amazing customer service and QC.

That being said, if you just want a single color that's a slightly different story. I'd still look for someone with the NIC certification though

I know of some decent restaurants that can seat you any time while you might have to wait 90 minutes at Outback or Longhorn. The difference is not in the quality of the food but in the fact that they do not serve alcohol. So many groups going out on Friday night have at least one who must have booze to enjoy dinner that the entire groop is forced to wait.

I understand if this is not your choice of color patterns. But I like it. Josh does all my stock alterations. Great prices too.

I just make a reservation...........

I would second Blown Deadline, phenomenal work. Also worth mentioning. Black sheep Arms, Redbeard Gun Works and Ely Yerian. Any of those 3 do stunning work but Ely is where I would send my gun and money.

As a guy that’s applied and beat on finishes in the field, I’d offer this:
Do yourselves a favor and look into KG’s products. Cerakote is what comes to everubody’s mind these days, but is not the best product, neither in application nor durability.
Their Nano series is what the USMC recently decided to order.

Don't know a thing about KG but duracoat just isn't there as far as durability. Though I was able to apply it in my garage which is a plus

KG Gunkote is nothing like Duracoat. Gunkote used to be a well known name, then I don’t believe stayed up in the marketing race. Durability equal or better than Cerakote, better lubricity, easier to apply in thinner coats, no hardener mixing, heat and air cure products, and less waste (cleanup is return unused product to container, rinse and spray out gun with acetone-done).
If you apply coatings, check them out.
