Hi folks. I just ordered a McMillan A5 stock for my Savage and got it in GAP camo. I would like to Cerakote my barreled action to match the green in the camo and was wondering if anyone knew what the closest match was? The woman on the phone from McMillan said she did not know. I am assuming it is either Milspec OD Green, OD Green or McMillan Olive. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you

I would go with cerakote McMillan Olive (H-202) unless you are going to do it yourself and you may want to use there air cure (about a week to cure) if you dont have a curing oven.

Im not a pro by any means, I just do my own stuff, there are guys on here that are PROS!! maybe one of them will put there 2 cents in also.. good luck with your project, keep us updated with some photos when you get finished!!

Thanks, I appreciate your help. Will definitely put some pics up when the build is done. I will be sending the barreled action out to have it done and they will be using the bake on finish. I figured it would be McMillan Olive, simply because of the name. Anyway, thanks again for your input

I also have a mcm gap camo A3 on order. I plan on the mil spec od green for mine. You can see the same color match on the mcm website.

Also DennisHoward can you provide some insite on the air cure cerakote?

Regards

I use the same steps on my parts as i do for the heat curing process, degreese, use aluminum oxide grit 80, sandblast the parts, rinse with acetone let dry then paint.. I have only done the air cured process 1 time, but found that i just dont like the time invoved even tho after 24 hours you can put your project back together and go shoot but it does take a few days for the coating to harden all the way.. For me I just enjoy putting my parts in the oven for 2 hours and its done, thats about all the experience i have with air cured, sorry if that didnt help much, not saying its not a good way to go but i just perfer using the oven

Chip Evans, you should post a pic. I too have recently ordered a GAP camo stock and have been wondering what good cerakote color would be for the barreled action.

http://www.kampfeldcustom.com/index_002.htm</div></div> Very true indeed. His finishing work is first rate. The difference between milspec OD green and OD green is probably that it is more flat (less sheen). GAP uses milspec OD green with the Thunder Ranch Rifle, which has a GAP cammo Manners T3. My money is that milspec OD green will nearly perfectly match your new McMillan.

BTW, also Bob's FDE barrled action looks sweet, flat black looks sweet in GAP cammo too.

Magpul OD is darker than Milspec. It's all in the shading. Your Cerakoter can start with Forest or Sniper green which is lighter and add black until he gets a perfect match. Blending Cerakote is easy as long as you mic H with H and C with C. Add a bit put a drop on a piece of paper and let dry to match.
