Hello all,

I did a rifle of mine in H series Tungsten yesterday, it came out perfect. Today I decide I'll put it back together. I tape up my barrel to keep the barrel nut wrench from scratching my new paint. I Install the barrel, tighten it down, take the tape off

The tape removed the metallic layer of the barrel, I'm super pissed.

The sandblaster I use is a pain to use because its not mine and I have to travel a little ways to use it. Is it possible for me to go over the top of the barrel with fresh cerakote or will that flake off like no other?

Blast the whole thing and do it right. Just trying to patch it together won't work. The substrate needs to be roughed up for Cerakote to adhere. If tape is peeling it off you don't have proper adhesion and the rest of the coating will be sub standard. You will be fixing these problems until it is done correctly.

Cerakote will never stick to a slick surface nor will it stick to itself. Parts that are not blasted with 120 grit AO at 60-80 psi will never be ready for cerakote. It's all about the prep. Strip it down, make the drive and blast it. Repaint, you'll be happy you did.

As stated prep is absolutely critical with applying cerakote. Make sure and remove all oils as well. A good bath in acetone post blasting should also be done to ensure no remaining oils remain. Handle with gloves so that you do not transfer oils back to barrel after you have removed them.
