Install of CG XTREME trigger on FN SPR action with CDI bottom metal and Manners stock. Thanks to Tom at XTREME for hooking up a one off FN with a "tactical" shoe...needed as the regular CG is too short for the SPR; Jeff at CDI for hogging out the trigger pass-through of the bottom metal, and ESPECIALLY Mark at Short Action Customs for doing the R & D on the modified transfer bar.

Winchester version of XTREME trigger, with the tactical shoe...not a stock piece but all you need to do is call Tom and ask for it.

The transfer bar needs to be modified as so to fit the SPR.

CDI bottom metal with the trigger pass-through opened up .5" to clear the trigger. There are a few ways to do this...mine is the EASIEST, but not necessarily the prettiest.

Break out the dremel to do so MINOR clearancing of the Manners...the dark spot in the front of the trigger inlet is where I had to remove a tiny bit of glass.

As it sits in the triggerguard. Action screws not torqued, so it will stick out a little more. The curved shoe is mandatory.

Re: CG Extreme in Winchester--Help Needed

Have no fear......I have your answers and spare parts to get your rocking and rolling!!

I have installed a few of these and there are some minor changes that needed to be made to the #4 lever to make them work correctly.

What is probably happening is your #4 lever is hitting on the circular cutout of your FN SPR action. So it is not able to make it high enough allowing your trigger to reset and even function properly.

What Tom has done is made new #4 levers that have more clearance on the front side allowing it to come up higher.

In addition, the "over cocking" has been set to a correct length, so your not "over cocking" more than necessary, but your safety still works as advertised.

I think I may have one or two of the new correct levers in stock. Send me an email (listed below) and I can get one sent out to you.

If you know anybody who is having this problem, I can try to get more and give Tom a heads up.

If I recall correctly when Tom did his initial testing, it was done on Winchester M70 actions, and it worked fine. Obviously, the FN SPR's have slightly different clearances.

Hope this helps!!

Mark

Mark- You are a freaking ROCKSTAR! You hit the nail right on the head as this is the EXACT problem I encountered. PM & Email sent. Thanks!!

Re: CG Extreme in Winchester--Help Needed

Still need to have the trigger opening in the CDI BM lengthened as the trigger body hangs down past the bottom of the inletting and is bigger than the CDI opening...and the reversible trigger shoe is a tad short for the FN, so I am going to swap it out for the longer tactical version.

I'll post a step by step of the install...but you are on your own for the set-up and adjustment as it is an easy, but multi-step tedious process.

The only thing that was not a matter of clearancing was the transfer bar. As Mark identified, the Winchester and FN SPR actions have slightly different specs and therefore the transfer bar (lever #4 in CG terms) needs to be slightly modified.

btt with install. Still need to adjust the triggerr and snug down the action, but you get the idea.

Re: CG Extreme in Winchester--Help Needed

Stones? Hardly...I'm just a 2 stage whore. Started with my first Anschutz...the ONLY thing I miss about my AWs...love my Geissele and Chip McCormick in my ARs...so it was time. Did not take the step lightly, but wanted identical feeling triggers in both my FN and Rem based comp rifles. Thankfully the CG is not only the best 2 stage going...it is the ONLY one that fits the SPR.

Both my 700 and SPR now have nearly identical 2lb 12oz triggers.

Re: CG Extreme in Winchester--Help Needed

I needed a smidge more stock clearance than with the Jewell, and I had to clearance my bottom metal a lot, as in 5/16" or so, by elongating the trigger slot.

I also had to adjust the #4 lever screw (to raise the lever while cocked) to get my striker far enough rearwards to get the safety to engage.

I find the regular springs too light for a tactical rifle. When I turn the first stage up where it feels good, the 2nd stage is too easy to blow through. I've got the 2nd stage preloaded as much as it can be, without binding.

I guess Tom has .022" springs to replace the .018" one.

OP have any follow-up posts or comments on this?

I have an A3g and want to update the trigger as well.

2 matches and about 400 rds later and the trigger is holding up just fine. Nary an issue. So pleased in fact, I am about to do the same to my .308 SPR as well...unless I sell it that is...

If you are looking for a 2 stage for your spr, xtreme are first rate.
