Hi guys:

New to the forum. I want to change calibers on my 6mm/284. Would just like to change out the barrel to accommodate a new caliber. Can anyone give me an idea of what my caliber choices are.

Would appreciate any advice or information that I can get. Need to change because I no longer want the hassle of reloading/finding correct brass and would like to move to a commercially available round.

Thanks.

At last count there were thousands of calibers.

There are hundreds of factory chamberings available.

Could you be more specific as to the intended purpose, or do you just want us to pick one at random and give you the name of it?

A straight up change to .284 Win would be the simplest. How you set it up is going to determine the best use of it. But, it is quite a flexible round as far as what it will do and the bullets available for it.

I will be using the rifle mainly for deer hunting. It is a long action. The 6.5/284 brass that I am resizing to 6/284 is getting more difficult to source so am wondering about getting a more commercially available caliber. I would like a .25-06. Is it just a matter of having a gunsmith put on the appropriate barrel or would there likely be other smithing to do. I have never considered this type of thing before so pardon me if I am not explaining myself properly.

25-06 should be easy to do. I'm not sure what kind of rifle you have and I think there is a difference in body diameter so might have to mess with magazine. But bolt face is same so shouldn't be that big of deal.
