Chargemaster 1500 tips & tricks

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anybody has any tips & tricks for the 1500 when it comes to cleaning it or storing it. I am new to reloading and tried using it today for the first time. When I was finished, there was still a bunch of powder in the drop tube.

I bought it used off the hide and can't find the manual. I'm not sure the manual was included but my memory isn't working rn. There's also all the leftover powder in the device itself. I'm sure I can pour it all out from the side but that would still leave a bunch of it stuck everywhere. I can't seem to get this stuff not to stick anywhere. Before using, I wiped with drier sheets the 2 cups as well as the platen and powder tube. The powder was still sticking like crazy to the cups and did not want to be dumped.

Any tips & tricks you guys have I will appreciate. I'm gonna try and contact CS to see if I can get them to email me a PDF of the manual.

Oh, it also came with the McDonalds straw mod. I tried pulling it out to remove what was left in the drop tube but that didn't seem to solve my issue. When I tried putting it back as it was, it didn't go all the way. It's been a nightmare using this damn thing lol.

I was trying to dispense Tac by the way.

I'll appreciate any feedback.

To keep powder from clinging so that it'll pour out I wipe the inside with a slightly used Bounce softening sheet. It does a nice job of getting rid of the static.

To get powder out of the tube, after pouring the powder out and then running a couple cycles turning the drop tube where powder is thrown into the powder pan, I'll then take a can of Canned Air and with a couple short blasts, blow whatever remaining powder their may be in the tube back into the hopper.

The straw I use is not very tight and there's no problem moving it in and out. My straw is plenty long where I can shove it so far in that it will block any powder from interring the straw. I can pull the straw forward various amount to adjust how fast powder is going into the straw based on the size of the powder granules, which helps trickling reducing under and over throws. Here's what that looks like:

I drain the reservoir and then set the unit to dispense 99 grains into the pan.
It'll dump whatever is left in the tube. Some will fall back into the bottom of the reservoir. I use a long artist's paint brush to push out the rest through the drain port.

All done.

I noticed the drier sheets have like a silk or some type of wax, idk. That ends up transferring to everything I wipe and then the powder sticks to it hard. So what I did was just wipe everything with a cloth and rubbing alcohol to remove that layer of whatever it is. This helped tremendously.

I don't use unused Bounce drier sheets as they don't work as well and sheets that have been used (e.g. already used in the clothes dryer). Fresh, unused Bounce drier sheets do tend to leave behind a film as you describe.

Fuck, that would've been good to know prior lol. But I already learned this now so moving forward, I'll remember to grab a used one.

Haha you did mention "used" but I had already used the sheet from having heard about it a million other times. I don't think anybody ever emphasizes on that tip so new reloaders like me just grab a new sheet.

Luckily for me, I had some common sense and noticed the thin film it was leaving. I went with my gut and wiped it off with rubbing alcohol. Much much better!

It helps never to totally clean the machine. The black/gray dust is graphite. Leaving that on the inside of the hopper, tube, pan and funnel will ensure that you never have a buildup of static.

RCBS charge master settings

Alright what secrect code settings are you running to get the fastest, yet still accurate powder dumps out of your charge masters? I tried to copy one random dude off youtube but it always over threw chrages by 1-1.5 grains so I went back to slow rolling with factory default. Thanks guys.

definitely a used one. After you use the used sheet to wipe away static, save it with others in a ziplock bag to toss in your tumbling media.
