Chassis for Short Barrel Bolt Gun

Looking for recommendations on a folding chassis (with an enclosed forend) for a 300blk bolt gun. Main use case for this build is a fun gun and to take on short-range hunts this year. I'm considering a carbon fiber barrel on an Impact 737 (or get the NBK). The barrel will be 16.5 inches with a suppressor.

Some options that I have been seriously considering:

• MDT ESS
• MDT HNT26
• Screech Owl

I'm leaning towards something from MDT because their customer service has always been 100% responsive and helpful.

I've been perusing

16-18 inch shorty rifles

I'm picking up a used Rem700P and I am considering chopping the barrel back to 16 inches. Anyone have a shorty bolt action? Can you post pics? Specs? Thanks

I originally had an XLR Element, and got a spare C6 buttstock when they came out. Never had an Envy Pro to compare, but they are really nice. Not sure i would go the c6 route again. When installing it, there were more exposed threads than i would've liked. Great customer service though. I might have to look into them again.

i run an 18" on an mpa ultralight sometimes. its around a 10" foreend chassis. nevermind i read 'enclosed after'

No issues with the ar-style buffer tube. It has the enclosed forend system.

The XLR Carbon if you can find one would be a really good option from what you described you want.
Also I think based on my own experience with them it would be difficult to match the customer service.
Also you could run a shorter carbon handguard like the 11.5" one pictured if you ever decide to run it set up as an SBR to make it more compact.

Folding stock, arca front. The folding stock was a “need” bc I love strapping the rifle to a backpack while folded. Hide a suppressor in the pack and get into my stand, then unpack it all.

Running an 18” 6.5 CM on impact action mostly.

I swap the other stock between barreled actions. 22LR vudoo, 22” 6.5 CM Curtis custom scout, and a 20” .308 rem 700 5r.

While I'm looking at an Elf Owl (not the Screech), the collapsing stock looks pretty cool, most reviews I've read, guys end up switching to a folder.

Fair enough. I went for the Screech Owl because the collapsing stock can go small enough my daughter and wife can get comfortable. Not many stocks or chassis seem to support short women.

No issues that I have seen. Love mine, I think it’s a great chassis.

S2Delta, not enclosed but light weight and you could use and AR folder adapter with it. They have an aluminum version and a magnesium version. The magnesium chassis only weighs 1lb (no stock or grip). You could do an AR buffer picatinny adapter and any of the myriad of MCX / AK style folders with it.

Folder is solid.

Had an arca forend that slipped, but MDT replaced it & second forend has been good so far. I haven’t experienced other mechanical issues.

I don’t like the factory grip, but that’s personal preference & easily replaceable. The buttpad is not ideal, but obviously a place to save weight.

Forend is also on the short side, but again there’s only so many ways
to save weight.

I haven’t had issues with how the forend connects to the backbone chassis, but those three itty bitty screws aren’t really confidence inspiring.

Overall, it’s probably the best option for a fully functional lightweight chassis. I haven’t seen anything on the market that makes me want to swap mine out.
