In the early 1970's before I joined .mil
My crew used to terrorize East Texas .
We did stupid stuff till the wee morning hours. When we were going through town not being chased by anyone I would look for a domino game.
The games would run till whiskey ran out or daylight came. They were played on fold up tables by old black men.
They tended the bbq pits and stirred the bbq sauce all nite long.
Thats how I picked where I would eat.
I would roll up in my hot rod and get out with my hands up and walk strait up to them. Eventually they would put thier snubnose back in thier pocket.
I got wise after a while.
I asked one if he could sell some bbq and was told we were closed.
I walked over to the table and thumped the whiskey bottle, near empty.
I told him that the liquor store was two counties away and also closed.
Was dry counties back then.
But I was an entrepreneur in those days and always had a trunk full of booze.
We ate good BBQ at 2-3 am from then on, I was spoiled.
Be surprised at what could be overlooked for q and booze back then.
Hell we were not 18 yet, would have been a hassle.
Some " fines " were paid in cash those days.
I miss those days and the bbq cooked by old black men in East Texas .
