His Savage Axis 308 has two piece short pic rail that came on it. Will these work or should he get a Weaver one piece or equivalent? Just trying to save him money for buying ammo etc.
I just received the Athlon Argos BTR, from Amazon. The turrets are very good. They listen to the consumer and make improvements. Well worth the $350. If you don't like it, send it back.
I like the bushnell ar series for the price.
Ony drawback is setting the turret to zero, hard to pull up turret to turn , once set it's gtg.

I'm pretty damn happy with my Primary Arms HUD DMR ACSS scope on my 6.5 Grendel. I have no problem ringing steel at the Sacramento Valley gun range steel range which goes from 50 yards to 550 yards. Zero'd at a 100 yards and good through the whole range.
I recently stretched the legs on my PA 4-14x44 ACSS and I came back hating that reticle for LR work (went out to 1k). From the lack of a center crosshair to the BDC obscuring the mil dots to the lack of mil hashes for wind holds under 2 mils, it’s a one trick DMR pony (assuming the BDC works for you and your load). I regret not getting the cheaper mil dot version now. My copy also had over 5% tracking error at 10 mils and the 6 mil dials tripped me up for a while.
EDIT: I just reread the thread title and while the ACSS is fine inside of 500, I wouldn’t recommend paying the additional $50 for it.
I’ve messed with exactly one Savage Axis in .308. It was about what I would expect from a budget light barreled factory rifle with an injection molded stock. Grouped a little over MOA.
Hondo, I got the base and rings you recommended for the swfa ss 10 x 42. I tried mounting scope and the front objective end hits the base and prevents sliding scope back far enough to see through it properly. What am I missing? I bought exactly the rings (ss-tac 30 mm LOW, part # SS30 L) and the egw savage axis 20 moa base part # 41802). Thanks for the help.
I have a friend who is in the market for a scope but only has up to $300 to spend. He just bought a 308 and wanting to play. I am not familiar with scopes at this end of the price range. I know he can't get a good tactical long range one with turrets like I am used to. Maybe a fixed power with a tree like reticle? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I don’t know the answer to that. I use the same scope and rings on an extended rail and have never needed to slide a scope far enough to the rear to where the objective bell hitting the base is an issue. Is the stock’s length of pull too long for you?
