I will soon have built a Savage Model 12 Target rifle (in a 6mm Norma BR) with an original Savage F-Class stock on it and I am wondering if anyone can guide me towards procuring a nice/practical cheek rest and perhaps a recoil pad that would fit this stock snuggly. Thank you and happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Several choices out there for adjustable cheek rest conversions Cat. Quite a few F-Classers are using this hardware
LoggerHead ACP hardware

If you don't feel brave enough to handle the conversion, contact Joe Ducos (Stock Doc) on this forum. He uses this hardware on all his conversions and does very professional work at very affordable prices. Excellent feedback from users over the last few years.

Do some more searches and see what else is out there. Good luck with your project.

Terry,

Have you considered offering a fully adjustable butt plate to your Sentinel?

Terry, can that alteration be done on the Savage F Class stock? And can I do that myself or I would have to send the stock to you?

Thanks for asking but I can't handle full conversions of fixed comb stocks. I am overbooked on everything else, but I really appreciate you asking. Joe Ducos (see my above post) should be able to answer all your questions regarding converting your stock. The "can I do it myself" part of your post is not a fair thing to ask me or anyone else that knows nothing of your equipment and experience with such things. No offense but I just can't answer that. I know that a lot of hardware sets go out to individuals for "do it yourself" projects.

I install a bunch but they are all done on stocks with separately molded cheek pieces, mostly new McMillans shipped with no hardware.

Thanks again and good luck with your project.

Terry,

No sir. Likely nothing that I will pursue.
I think it could easily be done but do not think it fits my model of what the stock was designed for.

The stock, bottom metal and all peripherals was designed as a "working gun's" stock. Adjustable for different body builds but otherwise minimal snag points and overbuilt hardware.

Fully adjustable butt plate systems are cute until the very moment they are adjusted out of the neutral position. Immediately, you get ledges, edges and snag points that will hang on everything from your clothes, your pack or anything static you are trying to maneuver past or through.

When moved out of neutral position, they also immediately present sharp edges. I have seen nice cuts and bloody kit, including my own from them on multiple occasions.

Finally, they are heavy! A three way axis design is a good bit of mass and weight if you intend to make it rigid, reliable and not prone to loss of adjustment. The better ones like the McMillan and Tubb are prolly 2 pounds just for the hardware.

I know it is nice to get the shoulder perfect but in a competition or operational call out where you sometimes have seconds to figure out your shooting position and engage, I want to keep the design basic but very usable.

Thanks for asking though. I appreciate your critique and feedback.
Be safe,
Terry

The KMW Hardware is the only way to fly and Joe Ducos is your go to guy for the install. As far as the Adj. LOP, McMillan sells their spacer system and it's made to install and "fit to finish" This would be a great combo and the way I would recommend you to go. The spacer system can be a DIY project if you have a set of velvet hands and caring touch (not soft BTW)

I agree with this statement, Terry. I hope you didn't take my inquiry as a bash. I own a Sentinel, and I will NEVER part with it.

Thank you for the response. :)
