What are 2 divisions of men armed only with small arms going to do without resupply, armor, air support, or intel? If I were planning a venture like the one you describe, I would stick to high density cities. Police are stretched thin, break down the forces into small, 4 or 5 man teams and spread them all over the city, time a coordinated attack, and police will be virtually helpless. They could do the most damage, and have the least amount of resistance, and then they can blend in with everyone fleeing. I was thinking about what would happen when the dust settles, and it dawned on me that the .gov would likely not act on any intel that an event like this was coming. Think of the public support they would have for a new, and far more intrusive version, of the patriot act, and we know how the .gov LOVES control.

Could they do a 9/11 style attack with thousands or more dead in a day, absolutely. How does that help China though? If anything, it would hurt them severely.

my take is: i expect any attack to be directed at infrastructure; food,power,water,maybe comm,maybe transportation. by food i mean chicken,beef,pork farms. they don't need to waste resources on city attacks. control of TV,radio,phone,news not necessary like in past civil wars elsewhere. truck resupply will end about day 3. cities will self immolate in 1-4 weeks when food runs out. gangs will over run those for what they will be worth. police will be overwhelmed if they resist at all. more armed gang members than cops. any city can be entered or left 1000 ways,so no real need for central distribution hub control. just wait to pick them up after they crash if wanted. farms will fall quickly. same as so. africa. small # of white ( and black and hispanic) farmers and ranchers easily overcome. wets are already all over our ag facilities.

I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night but I can't help but wonder what the strategic importance here in 2024 would be to China if they wanted to invade Taiwan. If anything, I'd think it's in their best interest to keep everyone focused on Taiwan much like Europe did with the Maginot Line.

If I was China, and even if I REALLY wanted to take Taiwan (I understand they makes tons of semiconductors), I just can't see why China wouldn't adopt an 'island hopping' strategy and expand/leverage their incredibly large Navy well beyond Taiwan into the Pacific. They can set up a blockade, bypass Taiwan's defenses and just let time run its course and weaken the island long before they even consider putting boots on the ground there.

Again, maybe I'm just ignorant but I can't help but see Maginot Line parallels here and wonder why China wouldn't just bypass them completely and take other islands (Phillipeans, Japan, etc) rather than dick around with Taiwan from the get go.

Just to illustrate my opinion instead of Taiwan being part of a land mass, it's an island being threatened by a nation with one of the world's largest Navy's.... why would they even bother to fuck with it when they can gain significantly more ground with next to no resistance and after setting up fortifications (likely against Japan... maybe the US...) and Taiwan is cut off, well behind enemy lines and given that position why wouldn't China just say "meh, I'll deal with them next year"?

These guys would crash the entire PLN air assets if they were ordered to run cyclic operations off their training carrier.

Prior to the missile fuel scandal, I would have speculated that maybe their missiles were the only thing that worked, but since they have flammable materials in them for propellant, one now is forced to wonder how much of their rocket motors have been sold off to fry rats by the nearby illiterate peasants.

You can’t make this stuff up. Meanwhile in Taiwan, they have actual working US military equipment and weapons with a large swath of ocean between them.

I'm willing to bet the incompetence goes way further than what we know at this point. I think China is much closer to a paper dragon than a competent enemy. I doubt that i'm ever going to find out for sure if i'm right though. I don't think China will ever really conduct an operation to take Taiwan, unless sleepy Joe gets relected, then the odds increase dramatically IMO.

If China attacked Japan, the US and Japan have a agreement that the US would come to their defense. And there's already 18000 Marines in Okinawa, and we all know how much those crazy bastards love a nice unfair fight.

China may have quite a few more "ships" than the US, but tonnage wise, the US is more than twice that of China. There's a joke that China lists every fishing vessel as a naval vessel.

A little bird told me that those islands circled to the northeast were currently getting US airbases built on them. Any island hopping operation proceeding northwest might get the attention of the roughly 18,000 marines in Okinawa...as those islands hope their way right towards 'em.

He's gotten rid of any potential successors. There's nobody that he's grooming to take his place. If he were to die tomorrow, I think the power vacuum would make things very spicy for China. The question becomes, what kind of person is going to fill the seat? Is it going to be "meet the new boss, same as the old boss", or is it going to be occupied by the craziest fucker that killed his way to get there, who has aspirations of world dominance? What are the long odds that a man who looks to bring about peace, prosperity, and freedom to his people by dissolving the communist party?
