Choate Ultimate Sniper stock

Re: Choate Ultimate Sniper stock

They are heavy, they are ugly.
You get features on the Choates that would cost considerably more on other stocks

They work very well, however the ultimate varmint stock, imho, is a better stock. I used mine from the bench and prone. Alternative firing postions can be a problem.

A better stock is the Choate tactical.

Re: Choate Ultimate Sniper stock

I have an ultimate varmint on my savage. It's not a bad stock, but it's not great either. If you're justmusing it on the range it's fine, but it's too heavy to lug around in the field all day. I plan to get rid of it and send it off to stockade.

My shooting buddy has one. The grip on it is HUGE! Like holding a pop can. He's 6'4" so it doesn't bother him with his banana hands. But I'm 5'10" with medium/smaller hands, and the grip on it is just to big to use comfortably

Re: Choate Ultimate Sniper stock

I have all 3 and they are right heavy, ugly, but very functional. I do like it though I use mine for both bench and prone very solid. Also like the swivels on the sides with a sliding mount for the bipod, with that you can have several of different types and it only takes a second to change out. If your not going to carry it all day you might like it but if you plan to carry this as in hunting rifle after a few miles if that long you won't have the energy to shoot you gun.

Re: Choate Ultimate Sniper stock

I've got one on a Rem. 700 in 220 Swift. Like the posts above say...it is VERY heavy and bulky! I got mine, used, for considerably under $100.00; used a rasp and files to reshape and smooth the grip; dropped an old, beater 700 action re-barreled with an old Swift barrel in it; put a used Bushnell 6500 scope on it, and went shooting. After a few trips to the range, I hit on a load that pushes a Nosler 55gr. BT at 3790 fps and averages 5/8" at 100 yds.
I would not want to carry it very far or shoot off hand...but that's not the way we do it. We haul it out on the tundra on an ATV, put it on a bipod, and shoot little targets (ground squirrels)...way out there. It works real good in the winds that plague us...rock steady. The guy I bought it from had put a couple of pounds of #9 lead shot in the grip. Seemed like a little "too much" so I took the shot out. It may not be the best stock for every application, but it works for us.

Re: Choate Ultimate Sniper stock

i have 2 of their ultimate varimant stock, pretty much the same thing. It's black instead of green, and doesn't have all of the stippling on it. That being said, they perform really well, despite being so ugly.

If I could go back and do it over again i think i'd spend the extra $100 on a bell and carlson and never look back. It's better looking, feels better, and has the same alluminum pillar bedding.

just my 2 cents
