chopping barrel on Larue OBR

Has anyone done it? I'm looking at possibly cutting mine back from 20" to 18" so I can ditch the SF brake and not have the turned down barrel section looking like ass. Should have researched suppressors before I spec'ed the gun out... but at the time, they were not legal in Michigan. Now I've found out SF's cans aren't the greatest.

Anyway, if you've chopped yours, let me know- I want to make sure this thing will still run fine. Not sure if it would effect the gas system negatively or not. I think the 18 and 16" versions run a shorter gas system than the 20".

Would you be better off selling it and buying what you want instead of paying to have it cut/crowned and worrying about function?

i would personally recommend having it rebarreled with a new barrel that the gas system is set up specifically for the barrel length you want in the end. I dont know how larue sets up there gas ports but on the GAP10s if you where to cut off that two inches of barrel the gas port would be to small and the gun wouldnt cycle right.

That's exactly what I'm worried about.

Maybe I'll just run it as is with the AAC brake and the rebated barrel. Decisions decisions

If you did chop it and the port was too small, you can always open it up. It's not a big deal.

(rebarreling is still the best option)

eh then we're starting to talk about more work/money. Comes a point it is simply not worth it to go that route. I'm likely just going to stick with the barrel as is

I'm glad I seen this thread because I was going to chop my 20" gap barrel , but maybe I won't . Ken gave me the impression that it was not that big a deal and was going to cost $200 to shorten and out the rifle length handguard on . I probably will just go with the handguard and keep my 200 fps .

If you send your gap10back to us it's not that big of a deal for me to cut it off, I've got numbers for the proper port size on every barrel length and caliber we run
