Last year we got the bright idea to spring for one of those 12'+ trees as we have high ceilings. What a hassle. It had a 12" base and weighed a ton. Couldn't find a buddy free to help and moved at set up the whole thing myself. Looking back I don't even know how I did it. I must be at the age where even if the muscles are still strong enough the rest of the body may not cooperate -- or at least not recover quickly.
This year, determined to save money and my back and neck, bought a Noble fir off a truck at Costco. $45. This may seem like a lot depending on where you are in the country, but it's a deal here. 7-8' size range. And it is beautiful. Still green, full, and not full of dead nettles. Best yet, it's easy to move, set up, and avoid hurting my walls.
I'm really happy to have saved the money and hassle and thought I would post about it in case someone was lamenting pricey trees. You can't untie them to check them out first so maybe some people are hesitant. It worked out for me and the price was right.
