Where can I get information on how to transport Class III items (SBR or Suppressor) across state lines for vacation? Im also looking to find out which states allow these items in them while traveling.

Re: Class III Question

The state you are traveling TO must be NFA friendly. If traveling THRU non friendly states you'll need to read up on that to be in compliance. SBR will require a Form 5320.20 to be filed before transporting said SBR no matter whet state you are traveling to. You can fax the form and it will be mailed back approved in about 10 days or at least that's been my experience.

Re: Class III Question

You sure you can Fax it to ATF? According to Instruction #C on the 5320.20 form, a Faxed signature is a no-go. The form must be mailed in. Unless I missed something, or didnt read it right.

One other question about the Form 5320.20. Where it says FULL NAME, is that your TRUST name and the address of where your TRUST is addressed to if the SBR is under a TRUST, or your actual REAL name?

I usually fill my form out for a years time. If they allow it, you might as well. I travel to a family members farm in TN where he has ample amount of room. He has a nice little place that used to be used for cowboy action shoots and is a small town. We use it like a shoot house now, so we all try and run suppressors to keep noise down and the surrounding farmers happy.

Re: Class III Question

thanks for the excellent info so far in this thread. if we wanted to do one for a suppressor, how would we do that?

What do you put in the fields:

Type of Firearm - I suppose "suppressor", correct?
Serviceable
Barrel Length

and then 'reason for transportation', do you put something like "all legal uses"? or whats the magic phrase for "im just going to use it."

mode of transportation - if its just by car, then just automobile?
