Does anybody know if there are large (12" ?) clay targets and throwing systems that can simulate a flying drone?
Want to keep the clay target within safe elevation of a rifle range, with a flight time of app 3 - 4 seconds, at ranges between 200 - 400m.
This would definetly spice up long range rifle competitions :)

PS: we shot this in the old days with .22lr rifles on a hunters trap clay target range in Norway. Best score was 21/25 shot with a Browning SA22.

Hi Tor:

We used to Roll a tire across the range with cardboard in the center… not a drone… but a mover!

Buy a drone and have it trail a target picture of itself….

Not aware of any clay targets large enough to shatter. But there is al almost infinite supply of garage sale dinner plates around here… for dirt cheap! Just need a line to send them down on a pulley…. Maybe plates aren’t as disposable in Norway… but here you can get by the ton!

Cheers!

Hi Sirh,

We have a lot of moving target ranges in Norway. The "clay drone" is just trying to stretch rifle shooting to another, and very relevant, level.

Yes, surplus dinner plates are an option for having fun.
However, for comps the targets have to be "repetitive" and have better and stable aerodynamics.
One thing is for sure; a grid type reticle is not the best option for this stage

Tor
