Clay Pidgeon Thrower

Wanted to buy my daughter a clay pidgeon thrower for christmas . She loves to shoot clays and does well. Anybody have any recomendations, looked at some of the auto feed ones but dont know good or bad

If you get a manual one spend a little extra and get one that has a 3/4 or better "cocker". In other words when the target is thrown the arm almost recocks itself. If you don't have a somewhat permanent and secure place to set up an electric one with a feeder they are a PITA.

Why not just take her to various clays ranges?

There is no way you can think up all the presentations that others have thought up.

When we shot clays seriously, our shotguns had more frequent flyer miles than most people.

I probably covered 50 or 60K miles with my shotguns over the course of a year x 6 years of clay shooting, that's a lot of miles.
Wore out 3 gun cases.

Thank goodness I can no longer afford trap shooting on a fanatic basis. Now if I can figure out why a have 2 rifles with an aggregate cost to me of over 13K bucks.

Wanted to get her an electric auto loader but if they are a pain maybe i'll rethink that.( maybe new shot gun) We just shoot in the back yard or in the back of the pasture and have alot of fun . Typically there might be 4 to 6 of out back, plus the back yard is close to the grill and the fridge Thats the only reason we dont go to ranges ....no place like home

On a spur of the moment decision I took a gamble on a 3/4 cocker thrower with a seat on it. Is sold as a "field & stream" unit at Dicks. Wasn't expensive and other than my fat friend breaking the seat it's been great. It's nice shooting clays over a pasture and cooking on the grill at the same time.

Try a nearby range.

Once you shoot a number of different presentations in a short period of time, you will be hooked.

BTW, we got All American aluminum cases and they held up to all the travel without a problem.

An electric auto loader should work great for your setup - especially if you can stuff it in a little dog house or shed to keep the elements off of it.

With sufficient budget, I recommend Champion WheelyBird first, around $ 350, which is a high-quality brand series currently on the market. The whole machine is easy to assemble and well-structured, it can run with very little electricity and it works well. Even through 3 boxes of clay, there were no interruptions or fires. In contrast, Gunpowder is something that is cheap and of the appropriate quality. The clay release interval is 25 seconds with a maximum of 10 clay capacities.
