I am building a rifle that will have a Manners EH1 stock and I am trying to figure out the cleanest way to configure that with a anvil 30. I will have a small pic rail on the front for a bipod that could be used for that but I was also thinking about a rail right in front of the bottom metal. Any ideas?

I want to get a tripod set up. Mostly for hunting. I could go with the Hog clamp or install quick release plats directly to the underside of the stock just in front of the mag well. The down side to the Hog as I see it is weight , one more piece of equipment to keep track of, and cost. The up...

The lightest slickest rail I have found to keep our light hunting rig light is by Henderson; it is about the same weight as the short RRS. Go full-length you will not be sorry.
I have way too mamy of the RRS rails and clamps and 3 RRS tripods, but for your application, I believe Henderson is better, easier to mount (comes with the hardware) lighter, and lower profile.
I would suggest just putting a tac table on the anvil and running a bag on the tac table. If your Anvil is not also used for an optic, then I'd just drop the Anvil completely and run a tac table on top of the tripod base.
We accomplished our first inhouse rifle plate install for a hunting setup.
So many customers call and ask how to do an install at home. We typically give them the answer told to us by a competent gunsmiths, which was too send it to a competent gunsmith, since most charge barely anything for the process and its fast compared to other gunsmithing processes.
But we really wanted to do it our selves so I could have more of an appreciation for what these home builders are going through.
I will say we are definitely not gunsmiths.
Pick your desired stock.
Decide the rail you would want, Left-Right in picture: MPR-73/113/1.
Purchase 1/4”-20 x 3/4(1”) button head screws, and the corresponding threaded T-Nuts.
Research what competent smiths do.
Measure and decide your placement of T-Nuts.
Check for fit and cool factor.
We used a Forstner 3/4” bit for the large diameter T-Nut and finished it with a 5/16” Brad Point for the thru hole.
Built a jig to level the mating surface of our stock to the drill press.
Drill large hole, then small hole.
Tighten the T-Nuts to sink teeth into composite, if using epoxy be careful not to get it on the threads.
Mount it up and admire your work.
We would do a few things differently next time. Will probably do a post again tomorrow on our 300 PRC on what we did to make it faster and ensure straightness.

You guys make great shit, not trying to toss a monkey wrench in, but I've learned over time the longer full-length plates way outperform the short one especially on a hunting rifle.
If you use a full-length rail, not only are there are many benefits in the field, but the mounting is way faster and easier. You can use the stock T-nut in the Manners or McMillian at the swivel stud and use just one (that you have to install) near the mag end. It is all easier to keep centered as well.

Zback - think twice about using the tiny rail section. Yes, it works, but it could work better.
In the field sometimes you'll have to set up where the vegetation or angles dictate the tripod legs go. Especially when shooting up or down the ability to slide in the clamp for the final adjustment is really nice. It is also really nice if you have a prone shot and want to use your tripod to be able to slide it to the front.
Other than that, as mentioned it is faster to insert, especially when you're looking at the animal, shoots great off a backpack (more stable than the bare stock and doesn't get hung up under recoil like a bunch of small plates), and easier if you're setting up in the dark for a NV hunt.
I personally would not use a full length plate. I have been running a short camera length plate with my Anvil. It works fine, but I am going to upgrade to a 4 or 6 inch one just to give a little more room for deployment.
I can't see myself using a full length rail hunting, unless you also have an ARCA bipod. I don't carry a bipod in the field anymore. Tripod positions have worked for me.

Imagine shooting this off a pack it doesn’t slide smoothly.

@Diver160651 I understand where you are coming from. I usually utilize the MPR-113 which is our current medium sized rail. On a sole hunting rifle I won’t use full length. Don”t need or really utilize bloods and with the MPR-113 I can get into all my positive and negative angled shooting positions. Learned this at Hatcreek in Idaho how much angles I could actually see while mountain hunting.
I just did my first real mountain hunt, and I will NEVER carry any extra more than I need. That weight and elevation than meat added on the way back are not helping my back any.
But for you wanting a full length, do not worry about the monkey wrench and stay tuned for a few more weeks.

Excellent points, it comes down to preference and other ways shooter will build positions. The extra weight isn't that much, but I am with Mike, save weight wherever I can. My match gun has full ARCA rail and it does everything you say. I practice more in the field hunting positions, and have yet to create a shot opportunity that couldn't be solved quickly with a tripod.
I run a small bag with Git-Lite, so hasty positions off branches and fences are covered. It also serves multiple other purposes off a tripod, so I carry it.
I haven't noticed my rifle hanging up on my pack in prone, but I don't use it much. I just have never been in a hunting situation in the four years hunting that I could be prone. I have been on a tripod for all my long range shots. Tripod is usually already out for spotting when it comes time to shoot. With a buddy, I set up the tripod, got dope, dialed his turrets, and he was shooting in a minute.
I have practiced tripod deployment, and like Frank says, distance gives time and opportunity.
Its all about the tripod, 100%.
The minimum plate length I think is 4 inches and anything between that and full length will be shooter's choice.
I put an Area 419 4.5" rail on my two manners. easy 10 minute job.......

I am curious, maybe I will change my mind. I have always run it so the rifle is just a little butt heavy at the plate, not perfectly balanced. Running the tripod further forward changes that for me. I am unpracticed any other way.
From seated and standing, how much of the rail do you use?
Are there positions you run the tripod further out towards the front? Besides prone.
Well again, just in case I wasn't clear the RRS rails are really nice and very robust. Their 6" rail weighs in just about where my 10 &12" rails do, and with either the 4 or 6; plus the pic section the system is heavier. Truly it's splitting hairs either way.
I have only run into a couple of situations shooting up/down steep slopes, or low when a rear racing leg is necessary, where sliding the gun back can make a poor leg set suddenly work great. I have found that *if* you get the chance, a high prone with the tripod up-front with the backpack as rear support, is simply amazingly stable. That said the 6" RRS would probably be enough rail to help in all but the high prone. the 2.9 is way too short but looks cute on the rifle. All that said I always try to set up as close to the mag well as possible.
The 2.9 is what I usually see on guys worried about keeping their rifle light. (But again, my 2.9" RRS plus my front pic plate was the same weight as my full rail). I also don't use a sling on my rifle so losing the front sling stud (although I have flush cups) isn't an issue. I tried various methods of carrying and find the very best for me is the Kifaru Gunbearer. It holds the rifle secure, the muzzle low (so it isn't getting caught in the low hanging branches), and deploys lightning fast.
I would not go change what works for you (it is all too close), but if I was a new shooter asking about mounting for hunting I would really consider the ultra-light full rail may be in the 10" size.

Makes sense enough to give a try. I might go with the 10 inch. I have used a sling to carry, but may give the Kifaru a look.
Yes, the high prone is a great position. I have practiced it.
Yes, I use the rear leg for support. Pushing the rifle back might work.
Anyone reading has some good info.
If you are already set up not sure it is worth the effort. All my bipods including a 5oz Spartan can attach to the 1.5” dovetail. So going to the range works nicely if I am doing load dev or just to get a few shots off the magnums.
On this trip we were in a ridge and a rare high prone was possible. I set up sitting because my shot was only 475. If it was a longer shot I would have moved to find the opening in vegetation and shot off the tripod prone.
Anyway all the discussions are fun, and hopefully a new person will be able to have options and see the reasoning we each have for our various setups.
Again if anyone is available and wants to see a lot of tripod use on slopes and to see over ridges like you find in real hunting; come help at UKD Team Field match this weekend- you see first hand why some struggle and how others seem to go in slow motion yet finish without timing out. All the little pieces add up.

what state and did you get your Elk?
Montana mountains, nope, unseasonably hot. But lead engineer got his first deer ever, and it was off a brand new tripod with my rifle. So bummed the first hunt with the rifle went to someone else but really excited for his experience.
Ya, it was really crazy in our unit too. It is a migratory path out of Meeker and by 3rd rifle, it usually gets a ton of animals. We heard the first rifle was a bust for many who went, our third rifle looked like a bust too, but we got really lucky on our last day. We filled 8 tags - but put in a lot of hiking and mostly luck to finally get something.
Us old guys were super tired after multiple trips up and down the hill to pack them out (luckily we had a 2 track at the bottom). so in a way, it was way easier than last year. We put our kids on 24 quarters (8 were done already) in 15 degrees as we sat in the trailer and drank a bit of whisky. My son is a UW Cowboy so he thinks is cool to show it was not that cold, by wearing shorts LOL
I was out there with them but my son is 3x faster than me -- hopefully, my son never sees this picture, he'd be pissed I posted this, somehow his face is all contorted
