Cleaning a muzzle brake ?

Hey,
I have a clamp on muzzle brake from hinterland shooting supplies and after a few range trips noticed some bad fouling around the exhaust ports.
I tried using tetra copper solvent for 15 mins but didn't really help much.
Any suggestions ?

Hell that's not bad at all. When mine get really bad I give them a bath in the sonic cleaner filled with Mpro7. If you don't have one, Wipe Out bore cleaner works great too, but you have to let it sit for a while before scrubbing.

On the really bad spots, I use dental tools.

I'm a little bit of a clean freak when it comes to my guns.
I do have a ultrasonic cleaner but have never heard of mpro7. Would something like hornady ultrasonic cleaning solution work ? The only thing is it is anodised black and I don't want to ruin the finish on the brake. Also what is best to scrub it with ?

Drench in CLP, then take a heavy wire brush to it or just keep shooting it dirty. It's a rifle! Shoot it and enjoy. It doesn't have to be pristine to work well for you.

the sonic cleaner with dawn dish detergent, run 20 mins,use nylon bore brush to clean then run another 20

I am more concerned with the carbon build up on the crown of the muzzle than the break.

Fire clean + a toothbrush and q tip gets it done for me. Several different sized tooth brushes.

When I clean my HK 91 which gets pretty dirty, I just spray it down with brake cleaner in a spray can. It works great and you won't have to detach it.

I always detach it and clean the rifle seperate. The rifle, barrel and crown come up clean but the brake is been stubborn.
I'll try the sonic cleaner with dish washing detergent and the brake cleaner and see how it goes..

Brake cleaner works for me as well.

Use the open 'neck' of a brass case like the 45acp or a brass scraper to scrape off any cake. Then if you want it more clean, just use any carbon cleaner and a rag.

Yours is far from bad though!

Sonic cleaner works awesome. A little soap, water and vinegar and youre good to go.

Because the brake is anodised black wouldn't the vinegar ruin the finish ?

I think most the methods will ruin the finish. But if you shoot it enough, it will almost always be black anyways, from the carbon

Don't know about the anodizing but, I used the Hornady solution when I cleaned my Stainless brake in the ultrasonic...worked awesome, I didn't have to scrub at all.
