I have a vortex viper and its been great now that I'm used to it. The only problem is I live in arizona and as you can imagine its super sandy. So today I looked at the optics are both covered in a light layer of sand. Obviously thin enough that its not effective the view drastically, but who knows. How can I clean this? I have done a search and only came up with people suggesting specialized wipes made by gun companies. Just like most things Im guessing its extremely similar to a common cheap item but after the word gun was put on it the price went X5.

So is there Anything I can use to clean it safely? I have microfiber towels, or the little special silky knapkin that came with my glasses. What about fluid wise? I need to find a way to keep the glass tidy since Im in arizona, but also not damage the actual glass.

    Thanks!

To get the heavy stuff out, maybe a few light spurts of canned air?

Then the rest of the dust like layers I normally use eye-glass cleaners and micro wipes. No scratches or marks anywhere on any of my scopes.

Check out that thread. I would vote against canned air and buy a blower bulb to remove as much particulate as possible. Then use a camel hair brush to gently loosen any particles that won't move and blow again. Once there are no visible particles only then should you consider any sort of wiping.

I would caution against the "canned air", it comes out substanitally colder than the atmosphere and if the can is tipped, propellant may come out in liquid form. When it strikes the glass the rapid change in temp MIGHT cause the glass to crack.

And before someone jumps on me for "insinuating" anything, there was a thread on this very subject a couple of months ago.

Go to a photography store, buy one of the little squessze bulbs. These are specifically made for blowing debris off a lens. Remove as much of the sand this way as possible

ok so canned air is a No No even if I take extra precaution to not turn it sideways/upside down? I guess I wouldn't want to risk it anyways.

Are the squeeze bulbs the same thing as the bulb piece of a turkey baster?
