Cleaning primer pockets, worth the trouble?

My friends and I have done both. Between yanking the spent primer and sticking new one in and cleaning to spotless we haven't really noticed a difference. I still clean just a little bit because OCD.

up to you i started de priming at the range so I do it after I ditch the primer I know plenty of people that will never do it and they shoot just fine I have not had a problem either way

I clean every time. Takes a second. But I remember watching a bench rest video and they tested both and noticed no difference. Was about 10+ years ago if I remember correctly.

I just do it because I like clean brass and don’t want to chance an issue with seating.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. When I do I feel like I’m wasting time, when I don't I feel like I’m skipping a step.

Whats the consensus?

I feel is always a good idea to do so, if not all the time, then once and a while. Residue can build up and get in the way of proper primer seating.

I clean my pockets every time, not only to clean them but also to uniform them since pocket can not only get dirty, they can also become more shallow as they're pushed by pressure.

I am in the deprime then tumble camp. Never have to worry about getting in there manually for each piece of brass. It gets well clean enough without any effort.

I deprime with a Universal Depriming Die, then tumble in a 50/50 mix of walnut and corncob with a few squirts of Iosso for a couple hours. Then I clean the primer pockets with one of those little RCBS primer pocket cleaning brushes in my cordless drill. Size with Imperial sizing die wax, and tumble again for about 20 minutes. Then trim and chamfer.

I just can't bring myself to NOT clean the pockets, even though I'm nowhere near a precision shooter at this point. Just too OCD I guess.

It makes no difference unless the difference between 1/4 moa and 0 moa matters to you. At that point I cannot comment because I ha e never tried to shoot smaller than 1/4 moa.

For PRS it a non issue. If you feel better cleaning, go for it. Short on time, skip it.
