Closet into a gun safe

This is a different idea....

Hide the closet

And a solid core door that opens out is more difficult to kick - same with steel core
the goal is that they don't find the closet

I would also add an Armoires or Wardrobe into the room so It looks like a den that has an Armoires for clothing storage...

It all depends on your budget...

I built the under side of the stairs into a vault, inside the framing it's 2 layers of 5/8" fire x sheetrock, then 1/4" steel on the inside, with full perimeter angle steel base. There is additional reinforcement every two foot going up. Cabinet with 1/4" plate back and reinforced hiding the door which is a sliding pin steel and concrete door. Like someone else said above it's all about layers. To get to where this room is you have to get into the shop, then into another room, know it's there and then really get to work. Between cameras, security system, and the other layers is a Target.

Things to keep in mind when going down this rabbit hole:

1) Know the difference between safes and residential security containers (RSC's)

2) If using a safe/SRC, use an 8-10" riser for the safe/RSC to put it on for a little extra insurance if it is going in a basement/lower level because of water (drain back-up/fire fighting water).

3) If you are going to store documents in the safe as well, buy a smaller separate fire safe to put them in to place inside the safe/RSC.

3) If you aren't going to hide/camoflauge your safe/RSC, don't by an RSC.

4) If you are going the exposed/visible safe route, anchor it to the floor.
