I just got in some CMP 40 xb's, 40x and assorted other Rem 40 X stuff from guy in Air Force.

I decided to rig this one out with an "old school" Unertil 15X scope a buddy of mine just had sitting around. First range test today and the gun will shoot. It looks a little rough, but the scope really did it justice.

Took 10 rounds to get it dailed in and then I went ahead and put 15 more through it to get used to trigger and season the barrel with Wolf Match Target.

First run at 100 yards shot 249 with 19-20 x's hard to tell. I love the way this old gun looks and shoots. Thought about refinishing, but haven't made up my mind yet. It has a lot of character marks from years of service.

Whatever I do with it I know its a "keeper".

The 40 XB doesn't have the trigger the Anschutz 64 MPR has, but it is still excellent. As old as the gun is, it looks as though it has been stored more than shot. It does not have a matching bolt, but I am not really concerned about that.

Re: CMP 40 XB "old school" scoped

I just pee'd a little.... Every time I see a 40x I feel like just saying, "Screw my budget, I'm getting rid of everything and building one of those. Don't even care if it takes a year or two."

Too bad I can't justify that quite yet, someday though. Until then i'll just keep drooling

There are lots of 700 triggers out there - even 2 stage

Seeing all the 40's in here I have a hard time not tearing
mine up - but for now it stays original.
But when the bbl goes the gloves will come off.

Very nice shooting and a beautiful gun. I wouldn't change a thing. I just bought a USMC from the CMP and was thinking about doing something similar. Or I might throw some aperture sights on. I haven't made a decision. It still needs to be re-headspaced because the bolt doesn't match.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I wanted one years ago as well, but couldn't afford it either.

After shooting the gun, I plan to keep it as it is, but I have to talk my buddy into some kind of trade so I can keep the scope. He has three of them just sitting there, the Unertil 15X I borrowed, another Unertil 25X and a Redfield 20X. All old target scopes and this is the worst one of the bunch. I tred t get him to loan me the 25X, but it was like new in the original wooden box and he was antsy about it so I didn't push it. Just glad he let me borrow this one.

Thinking about using the 40XB for 100 yards and less and using the Anschutz 64 MRP at 200 and 300.
