All, Thank you very much to Beck for running the May match while the rest of the team was at the Sniper's Hide Cup. All is on for this weekend. Set-up at 8am, shooter's meeting at 8:45, please be there by 8:30 to get set-up. For the morning match, please email [email protected] to reserve your spot. We will take the first 24 shooters. We will have another match at noon, please note if you shoot the noon both matches, you are required to pay the $15 fee again. We have had a couple of months with short tills. Please don't make us exchange score cards for match fees, I want to stick to the honor system. Hope to see everyone this weekend, the weather should be great. RJ

CRC LRPR June 2013 Results

All, As you can see with our 32 shooters in the morning, we ran late for the afternoon crowd. My sincere apologies to the p.m. crew. My only solution is to move the afternoon start time to 1pm and cancel the a.m. RSVP requirement. If we have a light turn-out in the morning, we might have a little dead time between matches, but that will be better than the alternative. Thank you everyone for the turn-out, help, and your patience. We hope you had a good time. See you next month.

Hi, I've just joined CRC and will be doing my Orientation this weekend (sept 8). I shoot a .223 and have my dope out to 300. If I can get it dialed in out to 600 in time is it worth it for me to come out for this event in September? I'd love to give competition shooting a go, at least just for fun. I've never done it before and have no idea how it works... I was also thinking of the 600 yd any/any prone or f-class. Anyone do those? Any guidance would be great! Thanks.

You should! The match is very fun and the people are nice and helpful with new guys. You will have a much better idea of what to work on after you shoot or ever watch a match. It may be tough with a 223 (especially with the wind) but not impossible. If you know your muzzle velocity and bullet's BC you can use a ballistic computer to get some dope that will get you close. The target distances are listed and calculate as best you can what your wind holds will be for different value winds (5/10/15 mph) and create some range cards to bring with you.

After the first time I shot the match I had a baseline of my dope and new what I needed to work on, made my second match a lot easier. If possible get there early and try to setup near the spotting station and ask if they will help spot your misses. Good luck!

Nishgriff, You should definitely come out and give it a try. If you know your velocity and bullet, we can definitely get your dope close with phone ballistic systems. There is a steep learning curve, your first match might be a little frustrating and humbling, but the improvements will come quickly. Always good to watch others technique, talk ballistics, and everyone is always willing to let you get behind their rifles and check out stocks or scopes. There is no pressure, it's a laid back supportive learning environment. See you at end of the month. Shoot me a PM if you have any other questions.

RJ usually gets the results up within a few days. I shot a 410. I had a rough first string. Missed 4 , second 2 and last 1.
I had to do a little adjustment on the fly. I showed up early to adjust my zero but there was a bench rest match on the schutzen range so that was a no go.
I went back after our match was over and they were done, targets down, guns put away and they still would not let me on the range because they had it "reserved". For their match. ???? I asked if I. Would just shoot 3 rounds to confirm zero. Nope you have to wait an hour until we all leave was the reply. Wow, I believe I will be attending the annual club meeting this year.

All, Thank you for the help with set-up, tear-down, and the great turn-out. Thank you to whoever tried to help by organizing the score sheets by putting them in order, but we usually keep the morning relay separate from the afternoon relay.... so, the scores are combined this month.

Next month we will be doing a Memorial Match for Harry Bovos (who has shot our match numerous times) who is in the hospital with Stage 4 Bladder cancer. We will shoot the targets going back on each berm after every shot instead of staying on the same berm until all of those targets are all engaged. Gary P. tells me this is how Harry likes to practice. We will donate a portion of the match proceeds to a charity of Harry's choice. Gary will bring a card for everyone to sign for Harry. Jess will be running the match again in October, as a number of us will be at the Competition Dynamics Team Match in New Mexico.

Also, Kevin is organizing a custom rifle raffle for Scott Decapio who lost his house in the flood, keep an eye out for another email from me here about this. This will be comprised of local vendors who donated their services or product. Please note who these vendors are and thank/support them!

Yes CoFox - I agree... this was good practice for Raton, having to dial dope for every shot, and rebuilding your body position for every shot.

I shot fairly well in the morning match, but then sucked big time in the PM match. This has become a trend for me. I wonder if I become fatigued, lose concentration, or start flinching, all of the above :(

I do think that the wind becomes more tricky in the PM match, as the wind was fairly constant in the AM, easy to correct for, but switchy in the PM...

I agree, the format from last Saturday was more in line with a "tactical" style shooting match and not as much a BR style match. I've not shot Raton, but really want to next year. I shot the afternoon match this time (I usually shoot morning) and had to really pay attention to the wind/mirage. Didn't catch my score before leaving though...I think I did pretty well...though target #2 eluded my bullet all day!

Just a heads up to everyone who shoots this match... There is a fund raising effort underway for the benefit of one of our shooters. Details are over under the "bear pit" section as a sticky. Please Check it out!

All, Thank you for the turn out, help with set-up, and tear down. Thank you for the additional donations in memory of Harry Bovos, we received $70 from the competitors. We will donate $100 from match proceeds for a total of $170.

Tomorrow will be my first time at this event. Any preference on whether I come for the morning or afternoon match, or both? I guess I'm assuming there's space for me. I wouldn't mind watching the last part of the morning match and shooting the afternoon, if that's okay.

Thanks!
J

Just wanted to give this thread a quick bump...last weekend was my first match out at CRC and I had a BLAST. If you haven't been to this match, you're missing out! It's truly a challenge to hit those little p-dogs.

I'm looking forward to the next match in March! If anyone is ever heading out on the weekend mornings and wants to do some practice, let me know! I have plenty of steel targets, some about the same size as what is used during the match.

Match in Raton this weekend if you are looking to burn some powder (www.sportingriflematch.com).

Thanks! I was planning on going to this match, but some last minute business travel changed my plans. I'll definitely make it out next time around.

Quick question...I was told that shooting sticks are needed for 1 of the stages...would it be possible to shoot that stage without sticks, or is there no way to rest the rifle somewhere on the terrain or a pack?
