So I learned my lesson about having too much caffiene before shooting the other day. Went to see the family for Thanksgiving and brought some 22s to shoot while I was there. Now usually with my 10/22 I have no problem holding about 1/2", but that day i'm sure Michael J Fox could have shot better while riding a washing machine.

I don't know what about coffee that makes me shaky but I drink Red Bull and Monster every day and it has no effect. I usually have a few Red Bulls with me when I go to the range, it was something about the coffee I drank that made my crosshairs vibrate like a diesel powered dildo.

Same here, I am almost always drinking coffee.

I'm a heavy coffee drinker. I know that caffiene doesn't help you.

BUT, its much worse if I try to cut it out before shooting.

Re: Coffee and shooting do not mix!!

Ya got it all wrong. If you drink coffe regularly, don't try to shoot well without it. If you do not drink coffee regularly, don't shoot after drinking it because you will suck. Same can be said for smoking. If you smoke, smoke then shoot. If you do not smoke, and smoke a cigarette before shooting, well you are gonna be all AFU

Re: Coffee and shooting do not mix!!

I remember showing up to shoot a smallbore match in college against another team and they had a table with powdered dounts, Mtn Dew, and coffee. I also remember that the guy shooting in the lane next to me was excited when he had a shot that actually scored....prone.

If I do neither it's a bad time.

Hey, works for me.

I agree with this whole heartedly. I am usually drinking my second cup of coffee on the way to the range for a match, just like I would be on the way to work in the morning.

Timber Wolf and Monster(any number of flavors I like), I refer to this combo as group tightener.
And I will once again quote Crash Davis: "If you believe you're playing well because you're getting laid, or because you're not getting laid, or because you wear women's underwear, then you are! And you should know that!"

Much of how you perform is mental, the brain tells the body what to do. Keep the brain happy.

Re: Coffee and shooting do not mix!!

I never drank coffee until I joined the USN. Found out real quick I was sensitive to it. It's great if I had the Mid-Watch, but not if I had to shoot for Quals after Breakfast. I swore the Nav was putting Benzedrine or something in it. Those little brown packets of instant (marked "Made by The Coca Cola Co.") that came in C-rats were especially devilish. They could open my eyes for another 8-12 hrs no matter how tired I was. I used to collect those. Now, many years since, coffee seems to have no "Kick" any more. These days, if I need to stay awake an extra 12 hrs or so, an OTC "NoDoz" will do the trick if I don't mind feeling like #$%* the next day.

Re: Coffee and shooting do not mix!!

caffeine like any drug that is regularly used become less potent with use, ie, you need more to do the same job. It's just a physiological fact of life. You rbody becomes used to it in one dosage, and larger doses return to the , in the case of coffee, jitters when more than forme, one 16oz of whoop ass strong is drank. I drink my one daily and I'm good. I drink teh second, and DAMN! I feel my hair growing all over my head and can't STFU or stop moving around for at least two hours...and forget focus!
