Former endeavors that used to give joy and are fleeting now...

Used to run 100 mile ultramarathons, then got older and couldn't compete to win so no longer fun. Shooting was awesome until I got burned out because I had to do it for work...no longer that fun. Used to backpack hunt alone for days or weeks up at tree line 11.5 feet...no longer fun to do it alone.

For me, going to car shows, and teaching shooting sports to kids.
I still squease in both a few times a year, but I don't look forward to either the way I used to.

I also used to look forward to getting older- now I see the error of my ways.

I'm at the point now where I don't enjoy(or look forward to) anything. Work is stagnant, wife hasn't been able to find work, and there just isn't any light in the tunnel. I've quit hunting, shooting, shop work, going out, literally everything except lifting. Seems like I'm not the only one though, I appreciate that 🤣

Lifting/physical exercise is good.

It might be hard to see but I promise you that there IS light at the end of the tunnel.

Trying to stabilize gainful employment with my wife has also been a challenge over the past few years. And it's not her fault either (and at times I've had to remind myself that). Prior to COVID she was able to break into an industry to use her degree. COVID happened and she was laid off at least once initially when everything was shut down.

Things started opening up and she was called back and then the business owner changed directions a year or so afterwards and then she got laid off again (this time for good with that employer). Oh I think it was also either a week or two before Christmas that this happened.

It took almost a year to bounce back from that (thank goodness we had prepared ourselves for such a contingency to keep the lights on and food coming in once the meager unemployment ran out). But eventually she landed new employment, and not just a 'job', but a career/position better than she ever thought possible and it's been a real blessing ever since.

The future is bright and once you turn the cornered get your wife back at work, things will turn around faster than you think and things will be better than you remember them being before

Keep the faith brother, you've got this/your wife's got this and you're only one phone call away from this present struggle being a distant memory in your rearview mirror.
