So took out my 6.5 creedmoor today for the second time. After breaking it in and everything the first time i brought it back home and cleaned it. knowing that i figured my first shot today on a clean bore prob wasnt going to be in the middle of my groupe (which it wasnt). It was 4 in high and 4 in left but after the bore got fouled my group tighten back up. I then let the barrel cool, on the first shot again 4 in left and 4 in high. I thought that this was a clean bore issue but I guess it is a cold bore issue. What do I do to remedy this problem?

The day did finish well this orange target is my first trip out to 300 with this rifle and really with any rifle on a range and not just deer hunting.
The other picture (white target) is from when I decided to make sure my scope was tracking backed it down from 300 to 200 and was very happy with the results. photo 1.jpgphoto 2.jpg

You will read ALOT of different views on both barrel break in, and POI shift between cold and warm barrel. I personally don't do barrel break in, I just shoot it. I also don't take in mind weather or not my barrel is hot or cold. Whats the total specs on your rig? Thought you might like to see this video that was posted a while ago

My opinion on the matter is the flyer is too far off POA to be heat related. I just don't really see how the barrel would get that hot after one shot to grow the billet that far (assuming 100 yards).

I would suggest running a cold bore group and see. Shoot once and wait 10-15 minutes before shooting again. Do this 3-5 times and see if the cold bore shots group. I suspect they won't, but if they do you will know it is a heat problem.

I originally thought you have après sure point problem or something not torqued correctly, but you state it shoots consistently after the initial shot. Could be but not sure base on what you have described. The cold bore group should be informative at the least.

Are you sure it's not just a "cold brain" issue.
Haha yeah im sure about that, today that was my biggest thing was to work on solid trigger pull and fundementals its one thing that i was most pleased with today.
Full specs are
savage 10 predator max 1 chambered in 6.5 creedmoor
factory barrel (mid weight fluted)
choate tactical stock
weaver base and rings
vortex viper pa 6.5-20x44
shooting 120 amax

Barrel is very new though. Didnt do a barrel break in just started shooting then cleaned after my first day out.
This was day two
Total round count is 60

I still say cold bore group to know where to go from here. Maybe dual back to 100 yards to help with a more precise hold and minimize environmental variables. (Not that I think it's environmental)

I think he was asking if the barrel was cold or wet; not the weather. Did you have oil or another lubricant residuals in the barrel or was it just dry and cold bore?

ohhhh gotcha... i put a light coat of oil in it before i put it away but I dont see how that would affect every cold shot? But I am very new at this so if I am missing something please help me understand.
Thanks guys with your help and patience

You can try running a dry patch down the barrel before you shoot the cold bore shot. The thought here is that the residual oil/lubricant reduces the friction down the barrel for the first shot. The first round pushes and the lubricant out and/or evaporates it from the powder burn. Thus on the second shot there is increased friction du to the absence of oil/lubricant.

In short the conditions change from the first shot to the second/third/fourth/etc.
