Hello everybody
Please excuse my english, i am danish so there might be some spelling issues.

I am currently in ukraine, working on AI L .338 and i been struggling with precision when I go further than 1400 m. First i thought i just had bad days, but i realized that is was the drop that was playing games on me . I spoke with another sniper down here ( local )who told me that the ammo available for us these days ( war time ) it not the best for these temperatures we have now. ( UA army issued mag lapua )
This is not new to me, we have cold days in Denmark aswell, but back home I have my homemade ammo.
Now i have to ask, if any of you have experience on this, and could help me on my way, what I should choose when i
order ammo from abroad next time ...
I heard that "Copper creek" could be a option ?

From what I have been told, RUAG and NAMMO makes some of the best 338LM ammo. And I would guess you have a decent chance to get some of that from NATO and other western countrys supplying the troops down there.

So after a quick google search it looks like you guys might be using AI AWM rifles and not the new AI AXSR? AWM and AXSR run different twist barrels. Might be a bullet weight to twist rate stability issue along w cold temps at 1400m plus.

I think there’s just some frustration coming out, which is understandable. I feel for the Ukraine citizens completely. War is hell and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It’s been over a decade since I got back and I’m still not completely right. With that being said, I also feel for Russian citizens. I felt for the Afghan’s, Iraqis, and Yemenis when I was over there as well. I think the vitriol comes from our governments and the virtue signaling that has come of this war. I’ve got people flying Ukraine flags in my neighborhood that have never even put an American flag in their yard. I’d like to think I don’t care, and maybe I don’t, but I never saw a fraction of this support when we were in Afghanistan towards the latter half of GWOT. Our populace is always distracted by whatever shiny object the media puts in front of them, and right now it’s support of Ukraine. Give it enough time and everyone will move onto the next shiny object to put on their FB picture. The Ukrainian government is also one of the most corrupt in the eastern block and we seem to be funneling money over there, not really knowing where much of it is actually going. Not to mention we are falling into yet another history cycle we never seem to learn from…sending tons of weaponry and ordinance to a country we really shouldn’t trust.

Sad part is, civilians always take the brunt of their govt. But the Ukrainians are no more innocent than the Russian civies.

TLDR: people are just frustrated with Our govt and Ukraine’s, as both are corrupt to the core.

There are licensed HF radio operators on the air, and with internet connectivity in European Russia and Ukraine that have the time and availability to run recreational modes for entertainment.

Tell him to take a selfie in his dugout than leave his camera on for a minute or two to give us a look of the surroundings so we can advise on the best ammo.

When there is a loud noise and the screen goes black we can be assured he was most likely in Ukraine.

That’s one thing he had figured out..it was true. Primers as well.

May I suggest you get closer then 1400 meters? Not b4 qualified, but class instructed by them a bunch. 1400 isn't rifle range for engaging human targets. Sure pot shots if your on a fob or cob. But if your just sulking around in your ghillie suit, your wasting your ammo.

Call in artillery. All them fancy 777A canons we sent over would be perfect. I was FDC for the first battery of them fielded in the Army. Look up FM 6-40 and go to town.

Any good soldier should be able to call for fire. If your a sniper your radio is your most casualty causing weapon. Save your 338 ammo for all those russian generals you guys have been supposedly getting.
