I'm moving to the Boulder area in August and wanted to hunt this fall in Colorado as a resident. I've been going through the Colorado DoW site but I can't find the answers to my questions. Maybe one of you know.

1. Are over-the-counter licenses the best way to go for meat hunting?
2. Are the OTC licenses restricted to certain areas, or can you go anywhere to hunt?
3. Is this the most straightforward path to getting a muley and an elk if I'm not looking to snag a trophy?

My hunting goals is pretty much meat gathering for the coming year, so I'm really flexible to make that happen. What's your advice? Thanks.

Re: Colorado hunting regs

The regs seem to change every year.

OTC tags won't include trophy areas for bull and bucks.

I thought you could buy an OTC bull tag and also draw for a cow.

If you call the office they can give you the most up to date reg.

You could as of last year atleast put in for a cow tag and pick up a leftover private land cow tag.

Deer, I have no idea.

Boulder Huh, you will love it !

Boulderits move here when it's not liberal enough

Re: Colorado hunting regs

Haha, thanks for the help. I'm completely down with taking cows and does because the meat's better anyway.

We're still looking at houses in between Boulder and Denver, and frankly I can't wait to get away from the BS here in Maryland. I can't get away from this area fast enough. Between all the people, the bad gun laws, and professional rat race, I'm kind of done with the DC area.

Re: Colorado hunting regs

Now for a resident tag you have to show that you haved lived in state for <span style="text-decoration: line-through">9 </span>correction 6 mos.

It sucks for new movers but getting a CO. DL the day before won't do it.

Have you picked out an area ?

Re: Colorado hunting regs

I certainly hope not. I'm going to call DoW and see if there's a waiver. I mean, can they doubt your status if your a Colorado homeowner? Show up with a copy of your mortgage and I'd think that would be enough. Either way, I'm going to hunt whether it costs me resident or non-resident tags. It's still cheaper than it would cost to buy that much beef.

Re: Colorado hunting regs

I am pretty sure that you have to be a residdent for 6 months to purchase a resident tag.
OTC tags are good for some areas but remember there is a ton of hunting pressure in most of those seasons/units. Best bet is to always get in as far as you can, there are a ton of "road" hunters in Colorado. Most any unit you can find animals in if you work hard enough for them.

Re: Colorado hunting regs

Depending on the unit you hunt in tells alot about your chances, do you have a non drawing unit that you are looking at? Depending on how popular that unit is also tells you how much work it is going to be to get the meat out. Like one guys said, you need to go along way in to find them in some units.
