Great feedback. I climb a little as well (not an avid climber, though).
The only issue that I personally have with level locks for tripods, photography or shooting, is that they can be loud as well as the lever can get snagged on clothing, straps and other things which releases the leg section or at the very least snags and moves or topples a tripod and whatever is on top of them.
Just so I can give my design team your feedback, what is it specifically about the twist leg locks that you don't like?

We do have a concept tripod that I can't give the specifics on that is not a twist lock or a lever lock and is/will be the fastest deploying tripod either market has ever seen. Sadly it's on the back burner at the moment as we want to get our traditional and staple tripod(s) out first. I'll get you all info on that once the patent on that goes through and I can safely talk and discuss with you all.

That's great. Much appreciated. I've shared it with our design team and we'll probably buy a few tripods with snag free lever locks and test them out. We'll throw some dirt and mud at both and see which does better.

Received the CTC Series-2 Tripod and Highlander Ballhead yesterday. Messed with it a bit yesterday and this morning. I'm very surprised at how stout it is for a lightweight camera tripod. Lots of Aluminum high quality parts and smooth operation. As far a throwing a set of Binos on it goes, it's way more than enough tripod. With the center column fully extended it's nearly tall enough even for me at 6'5''. I did put my rifle on it and I believe you could shoot off it in a pinch, but don't expect the stability of a heavy tripod. I'd say it'd be a great set up for a smaller stature shooter for primarily spotting and light rifle work.

I'll do a more thorough review after I get it out to the range and a couple of upcoming matches. I will say with the initial impression on the series-2 tripod that the series-4 ought to be a beast if they get it all right!

My Series-2 came in yesterday, as well. I'll absolutely concur with @LoneWolf_052713 said about it. The biggest difference,
is that I'm 5'8" and with the legs fully extended, could comfortably use my binos.
I also found the 1/4 turn lock on the center column much simpler to use than my current setup.
For spotting, you'd be hard pressed to find something better in this price range.
As for the Highline ballhead, you can put the exact amount of tension on it so that you can move your spotter/ binos from target
to target without being floppy.
At most matches, I've had folks from 5'- 6'10" try to get a quick look at targets using my binos. The way the center column is designed on
the Series-2 makes it quick and easy for almost anyone to spot with.
I did put my rifle on it for a minute, but at 23 lbs, it didn't feel stable enough to shoot off of at full extension. I'll give it a try this weekend
with the legs collapsed.

Now if you fold the mount out of the way on the ballhead, collapse the center column all the way down, and throw a game changer on top, it's very shootable, but limited on height. this small tripod at full extension has less flex than my leofoto 364c. like previously mentioned, very stout little tripod!

The COTC Series 4 (and the series 2 as well as the future rifle specific tripods) will always have the rubber ball foot. However there are spikes under the rubber ball feet, you just have to unscrew the rubber ball by hand

My understanding is that they are developing a shooting specific tripod and head that isn't listed online yet.

Took the Series-2 tripod out to the Southeast Regional Series Finale held in Virginia over the weekend, we got rain, we got wind, and we got some mud/sand. My Bushnell Forge 15x56 binos never fell over on the tripod and operation was smooth regardless of the dirt and debris. Going to the "Road to Redemption" match this weekend and really enjoying the lightweight setup for spotting. Ballhead is nice and smooth as well.

The website is LIVE! Be gentle, it's mainly a placeholder website for the time being as we are more focused on the design process and manufacturing. The photos that are attached and on the site are of the prototype, not necessarily the final finished product. Don't worry, the final product will be as good and nicer, but thinks like the rubber design on the leg locks may change or the color of the integrated ballhead may change slightly.

I'm out traveling for the next week and a half but feel free to DM me questions. I'll give any info I can, but since we don't have the final product made yet, some things I can't say for sure (like the final weight and such).

It's still getting the final weeks in the design, but yes it has the standard bowl that you can attach any photography ballhead to. The weight is still being determined as we are changing some parts to stainless steel to increase the longevity and durability of the tripod due to the conditions that you all use them under. So weight is less of a concern for this particular model as we know you don't hike long distances with it for most competitions

That is correct. The production model will be a quick release/lock clamp and not a twist knob. It will also have a function that will allow the clamp to adjust to slightly wider and narrower plates. This is important because some manufacturers make area clamps that are not exactly the same dimensions as the true arca-swiss patent design.

I have yet to buy a tripod and have shopped the RRS system for quite awhile.
The release of this new tripod is very timely. I like what I’ve read so far in this thread. I’m planning on buying one with the integrated head early in 2020.

I was originally looking at some sort of leofoto setup with rrs head. Originally planning on spending about 800$. This is tempting.

I’ve also been trying to pin down a plan for a tripod setup. I didn’t want to drop RRS money because I just kicked off a new rifle build. Was thinking about something in the leofoto or two vets camp that could get me by for a year and then become a secondary/backup later. This may be a good middle ground. Just to be sure I understand. The integrated ball setup completely replaces the apex. So there is no switching from standard bowl to ball. Correct?
