Been eyeing The Colt le 6920 OEM 2 with no furniture.
I recently built a SHTF rifle and I thought, 2 is always better than one. I've never owned a Colt. Researching them for the past 2 weeks, all I'm finding is people talking about roll marks, and how they outsource parts.

I'm not really interested in a roll mark, or resale value, I've never sold a firearm, and never plan to. Are these new le6920 OEM2s something that you'd trust your life on? Are they still as reliable as the Colt of old? Just looking for some thoughts on them before I possibly scoop one up. Thanks!

Doubt much is made in house anymore.

If you are paying a grand and it’s a backup don’t get hung up on “Colt”.

A Smith and Wesson M&P would be a less expensive alternative that I have knowledge of running just fine.
They are $799. I actually have an M&P 15 always has problems feeding. The m&ps have quite a few proprietary parts on them as well I believe? Not sure though

Lol pmclaine must be new here to recommend an M&P over a Colt.

The 6920 OEM is a great rifle at a great value. I just bought another one from Mile High a few weeks ago. My buddies have done the same.

People are complaining because they’ve switched from the LE prefix and now “M4 CARBINE” to “Carbine” and other minor cosmetic stuff that doesn’t matter.

Barrel is still 4150 CMV. Bolt is still C158. Carrier and Castle nut still properly staked. Accuracy is fantastic.

    Buy and use with confidence.

Colt is surviving off it's name just like Remington. Both are "has beens" and not near their quality from decades ago.

I'd build my own with known quality parts before dumping $800 on something that needed more money to be functional.
This is what I'm hearing, but no one seems to have any evidence to back it up. They say things like that, and the post stops there. Can you expound? Why are they "has been"? Not trying to be a douche, I'm just trying to understand why people are now bashing them? I know they stopped selling to the public for awhile and when that happened I was pissed and said I'd never buy one, but no one can even give me a straight answer on why they stopped selling to the public?

M&P .308s are proprietary as fuck. Avoid at all costs.

Shoot out a barrel it’s pretty much disposable.

I had a great run with an issue M&P ran sweet in all sorts of weather.

Only time I had a problem was sub zero with cherry balms for lube - the line jelled. Can’t blame that on the rifle,

I’d buy a Colt from a few years ago but do some research….new Colt is just a name.

I don’t think CT even has employees.

Smith and Wesson finally learned it’s cash comes from people that buy guns not those that ban them.

Their move out of Massachusetts despite all the history was commendable.

You must be enamored with labels, guessing you buy shit because “It’s issue”

No offense but it seems like you have an ax to grind. A simple Google search will show you they have almost 500 employees. S&W moved. They had no choice. I've been researching. Please enlighten. Why is it just a name now? Seriously. I'm interested I would like some answers.

Colt is fine, i have a few thousand rounds down my 6920 Socom (not a huge amt), multiple hand loads and factory stuff, no issues. Barrel is also accurate for being chrime lined

Not the same rifles of old. Lots of outsourced parts. Truth be told parts have always been outsourced.

Those 500 employees are building what still butters their bread 1911s……and apparently modernizing their CNC machining has created some fantastic pistols the equal of the 30s.

Truth be told any company has to go out of their way to make a bad AR…..and there are some out there that succeed at it.

Be interesting to know where the forgings come from. I’m guessing one place makes batches of rough forgings for many that all say they are better than the other.

S&W left MA because the AG was pressuring them to suspend AR sales to all civilians.

Those ARs are their profit makers.

They didn’t have to leave, they did the right thing- finally.

MA lost a company that is always in their top 10 money makers and took good jobs from a depressed area.

A newer Colt AR is a fine rifle. Hopefully they still follow TDP - there is no compelling reason for them to do so anymore though.

I'd still like a Colt lol. Either that or an FN15 upper on an aero lower. I've built alot or ars and never had issues with any, I just want something genuine I guess

Show me where the pony touched you. ;)

In all seriousness can you cite sources? I’m no Colt Fanboy. I have no shares in that company and it’s not my name on the side of any rifle so I don’t care who makes it. If their quality has slipped or their parts don’t meet spec I’d love to know so I can stop buying them and recommending them to others.

My understanding as of this moment in time for anyone looking for a simple, easy, “backup” factory rifle which is what the OP asked for I can see no better value than a Colt 6920.

Yes, I’d agree that the Colts of 2010-2015 (not decades ago as mentioned above. They were still using non milspec sized takedown pins decades ago.) were better but only in things like the extraneous stuff I mentioned above.

Would I recommend one if they were even $1000? Nah. But $799? Man that’s a no brainer. Where else are you getting a $799 gun with all the minimum specs in a defensive rifle? Add a 2 piece Centurion rail and stock and youre in great shape. I believe the OEM1s are a better value, though.

And no, I don’t have to buy anything that’s issued because it was issued to me.

    Didn't CZ buy Colt ?
Holy shit, I just looked it up. They did. That's enough for me to say nay on it I think. I have zero doubt they are fine, but I want something that is proven. To me, with all the changes I'm reading here, and all over the all knowing arfcom threads(joke) As much as I'd like one, I think I might pass. I'm going to start looking into FN uppers for an aero lower I think.

Have you looked at the Geissele Super Duty? It’s on sale this weekend and a better value when you consider the rail and trigger (missed that you wanted an OEM 2 in the OP

CZ owning them actually should male you want Colt products even more.
CZ doesn't make a bad gun....far from it, they make excellent guns, pistols, rifles, rimfires, shotguns....all of them are at, or near, the very top.

True, I've shot a cz bolt 22 or and a cz shotgun. Both were too notch, but at that point am I really buying a Colt?

I don’t think you’d find anyone, anywhere that would say the G Duty Uppers aren’t better than both of those two.
I'm going to research them more. Or at least another few hours lol. Probably going to grab an upper and throw it on an aero lower. Thanks for the notice. I never would have even looked. Never looked into them because I knew they were out of my price range.

Same here. I only started looking at Memorial Day when they had the Super Duty for like $1500. I hesitated and the sale ended. I’m probably grabbing the Duty rifle this time because I’ll kick myself if I miss out again.

Not true. The BCG and barrel are proprietary and I'm assuming they did that to prevent the consumer from swapping parts around. Other than those parts it's just a low rail DPMS pattern rifle and you can use any barrel you want. Just have to change the BCG if you change the barrel.

Sounds like a lot of fun.....

When I bought my LMT I knew it was proprietary.

Lots of people found out about Smith .308s being special only after they had problems.

So you only have to change out the 2 most important parts? Lol jk

If you have a vice and a barrel wrench it's about a 45 minute job at most.

Yep, never owned a bad CZ firearm. The fact that CZ now owns Colt is a good thing. It's not like Remington or Beretta bought them;)

lol, the anti colt hate is retarded and from the same cats that recommend a psa or m&p.

colt is fine, still the same standards as always. M4carbine has a long thread on the new colts and wouldn't you know, no difference except rollmark.

oem at 799 is very good

oh and cz doesn't produce garbage and you'd want a parent like that.

no 5.56 has more rounds downrange in every possible theatre of war and they hum. If you decide to spend more, then you look at LMT

It’s started around 2012-13, colt stared laying off workers and increased their outsourcing. When this took place, it killed morel and their QC turned to shit. They stopped selling to the public because of internal problems and could not fill their contracts. The best thing for colt was CZ, but CZ has not changed colts management. Hopefully they will in the future and Colt will be turned around. if I was to buy a colt, it would need to be pre 2013 production or the price would need to be right and under heavy inspection.

Well despite the negative and the positive, I think I'm going to go ahead and grab one. They still have Colt markings. Even if CZ is running it, I have more faith in CZ than I do alot of other brands. suggestions are more than welcome on other brands in or around that price range.

I feel like for $799 I cant really ask for much more. Shit, PSA complete rifles are going for $799. Found a website that says they have the OEM 2s with Colt "M4 carbine" marked on it.

I feel like I’m losing my mind. That LWRC upper for $825 in the PX right now dominates the rest of this discussion. How has nobody bought it? That is an outstanding rifle. Who else makes a single piece BCG with no gas key screws or seal to fail?

    I'm not seeing it?

He bought it last year, and he put 500 rounds down it, or the person before him did? My opinion, I think it's still for sale because how could you possibly verify the round count? Not saying anyone is lying, but this would be a third hand purchase. So now you have to trust not just the person selling it, but the one before him as well.

It’s probably there because of his post count and the fact you can’t view his profile or feedback. Lots of scammers lately so people are hesitant to jump on deals with no history to see

Colt is one step above PSA. cannot recommed either. been a colt aromored for 30 years and QC and general quality has slipped, lots on non in house made parts. save ups, get a DD, gisille, LMT, KAC. hope CZ can save colt. Use 556 chambers. 1/8. 1/9 will hold combat zeros. with wide weights

non colt made parts, poor QC & non spec parts from springs to bolts, colt has, since loosing the TDP, began outsourcing LOTS of parts. many are substandard. I have all but stopped working on colts, NO PSA. my go to are Geselle, & DD using precision gauges, I have found a lot of out of spec problems in colts.

Out of curiosity, what do you check to verify a spring meets a certain spec?

All I run is Colts and have had zero issues from multiple different rifles for decades. Excellent accuracy and rock solid reliability. Do beware of some models sold in the early prefix CE near the bankruptcy. CZ did recall all models effected. The newest guns coming out look and feel Colt quality.

CZ now owns Colt, and "CZ Colt" is more trustworthy in my mind than "Colt Colt" in their final twelve years.

    Buy one and enjoy.
