Combat Loads

Gentlemen,
I will be heading to the hills of Astan here in a few months. Just got word that I will have a M2010 in my hands, and I couldnt be happier. My question is, what would be the best way to carry a combat load for an M4 and a long rifle. I was thinking about having two chest rigs, one for M4, and possibly a battlebelt with all equipment set to the lower back. All will sit over a standard issue plate carrier.
Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

When I humped the M24 in Afghanistan I carried just one chest rig, a TT MAV set up for both the carbine and rifle. I carried six mags on the left side in three of the triple mag pouches and the small utility pouches held boxes of M118LR while the large utility pouch held stuff like NVG's and other mission essentials. The reason I only used one rig that I wore all the time was because on more than one occasion I'd be going in through the door and straight to the roof to provide overwatch. Having one rig for the rifle and one for the long gun can hamper speed and efficiency since you might grab the wrong one. As far as chest rigs go I like Tactical Tailor rigs because I've felt they've always been a good value but the Tyr Tactical stuff is looking pretty sweet. Whatever you do though don't weigh yourself down with a lot of shit, just keep in simple.

In Astan right now with a similar situation. I bounce between the 2010/110/and m4. I tried using multiple chest rigs but it got to be a pain in the rear so I just mounted everything to my chest rig. At this point I usually patrol with my m110 so I have it set up for that. The 2010 only has 5 (5rd) magazines but includes a nice zippered pouch (assuming you get a new gun) you can throw the extra mags in and attach to your kit or throw in an assault pack.

Thanks for the advise guys. The best solution so far is to buy a personal plate carrier, because the issue one is junk in terms of gear placement.

Have you thought about a Mayflower PC with multiple clip-on chest rigs (one for the carbine/one for the long gun)? For sure, it won't be cheap, but Mayflower makes some top-shelf gear w/o being too heavy...

I would go with HSGI Taco mag pouches for a chest-rig. They will be universal with your M4 or M110 mags. The M2010 mag pouches would work great on a belt. When you go slick on a roof top you'll still have M2010 mags on your person.
On my last deployment in the Marine Corps I had four long rifles issued to me. It's difficult putting together a universal kit.
