Some people like the extra metal in the MEGA/SBU upper (I like the BCA), some like the Monolithic AERO Enhanced.
All seem to be stronger (if that is even needed) than normal uppers.
The AERO Enhanced seems to have more metal where the threads meet the road. Is it just an aluminum 'adapter' threaded on then welded to the upper?
I would think that is the real weak spot on an AR upper.
You could have a solid block of aluminium bored as an upper but the threaded extension is limited by 'Mil Spec' dimensions.
Other than crossing patent lines, would a combination of the two designs provide the stiffest upper?
    Disregarding the weight of course.
Hold your upper up to the light and look at the junction of the threaded extension and the body of the upper.

i just got in my first aero precision upper, M4E1. haven't shot it yet but I like it. its different but install was easy. I will say the barrel fit to the upper was not as tight as the Bravo concealment uppers.

Does the junction of the extension and the upper body look to be stronger than the normal thread junction?
Does it look like they added it and did a little welding? Or is it really a one piece forging?
I've never seen one in person.

I will take some pictures of it this evening and post them back up here so you can see.

from the quick looking at it as I was too ugglie eyed with it and the barrel to really pay attention to it but from a quick look, it did look like it was a forged one piece and I even remember saying to myself "this sum bitch is one piece? dang!!!" I talk like a joe dirt redneck in my head.

Why do think that is a real weak spot on an AR upper? I don't think I have never heard of a single case of a crack or break at the juncture of the barrel nut and hand guard. There is very little flex at that point and it you did it would have little effect on accuracy due to the barrel free floating.

One problem with that Aero lower is you are limited in hand guard selection.

I will say as far as strength goes, it really doesn't matter since the parts that connect are pretty close to the same size, it is just different how it attaches. realistically, there isn't any more material connecting to the upper than the standard upper/barrel nut. the only issue with the aero that I can see is you can only use this series of handgaurd in different lengths. if you wanted to change it up, you cant. This handguard is so nice that I wont be wanting to change it up but to some, it would be a negative. it wouldn't be an easy change out barrel nuts and bam, new handgaurd can go on.

my only regret is I was in too much of a hurry ordering this that I didn't realize I ordered keymod instead of m-lok. I have sections for m-lok but not keymod so just have to add a few rail sections. this is more of a DMR style rifle so I am only adding a bipod and a small hand hook.
