I am trying to decide if I should get a BigHorn Invisi-Nut (Barrel Nut) and use my current Savage Pre-fit or get a Proof Research Bull Profile Barrel and take it to a gunsmith for a traditional shouldered barrel. I have the ARC BarLoc now but I saw little information on the POI problems - I want to get something reliable that I can trust over time. I don't know how much inferior a barrel nut is to a shouldered barrel but I don't want the possibilities of a BarLoc problem again, I plan to keep this setup for a while. I want to switch my Timney CE to TT Diamond and looking for feedback on Athlon Ares ETR or other suggestions. I am hesitant to get another ARC product but looking at the ARC m10 Rings.

NSS or bighorn 12 point nut and your good to go.

Someone makes a 6 point nut as well but the vendor escapes me.

No way in hell am I paying that much for the wrench for the smooth bighorn nut.

I was going to do a Barloc too. Was really excited about it until I saw the POI issues. Kinda scrambled afterwards getting new parts ordered. Ended up going with a PVA barrel nut. Nothing special, no proprietary tools required. Just a standard 6-point nut that you can stick a common wrench on if you need to.

Also, don't worry about the ARC rings. They are proven and solid. My favorite rings to use, bar none.

I am runniing the ETR and the ARC rings, no issues with either one. I just shot my first match with both on a new rifle. Had wind, rain, and sunshine. I didn't miss any shots because of the scope for sure. Targets were 311 to 1034 yards and the scope tracked perfect.

I have used the SPR BugNut on one of my Tikkas. I also have a few shouldered barrels. If you already have a barrel for a nut setup, I would go with it. No difference in accuracy on my rifles.

The problem with the pva nut that fits a standard wrench is you need a crows foot to put a torque wrench on it. With the standard savage nut wrench you can put a 1/2” drive torque wrench right on it. That is why I run a nss nut and savage wrench.

I think I will try:
BigHorn 12 Point Barrel Nut $55.00
Action Wrench $85.00 (don't see anything in stock right now)
1 – 1/8″ crowfoot wrench

What is a good barrel vise to get for this?

I have a Bartlein Barrel at PVA since July 2018 that was for a shouldered BarLoc - I am hoping it can be changed to shouldered pre-fit for an Origin. Waiting to hear back.
