Could you recommend any computer game that could assist or complement training and learning of the fieldcraft and tactics? Understanding of course the limitations of Virtual things, etc.

P.S. I hope this post is in the right forum.

ArmA or ArmA II. They are the best large scale military simulators available. In fact, Virtual Battle Space is a simulator that is used by our Military, and the only difference is VBS is optimized for use with real-world simulation equipment (ie tank simulator capsules that you sit in, and similar). VBS is ArmA with a little more detail.

Of course, I hope you have a beast of computer, or it won't be nearly as enjoyable.

Guys, thanks - Doom 4 rings the bell, and ArmA II sounds great (judging by its Web site). Do you know if anything comparable exists on Mac (as these two are PC or X-Box)?

As for ShooterReady - it's a wonderful tool for marksmanship development (best I've seen), but has nothing to do with tactics.

Risk (for tactics) Barrel-o-Monkeys (dexterity and patience) and Operation (EMT).

What kind of fieldcraft? Are you talking target ID, concealment, movement, etc?

Most of that stuff would best be done with another person, out in real life. If you want to develop some mental skills that will help with whatever you plan on pursuing in terms of "fieldcraft," look up KIMS games and practice drawing. All you need is a camera for the first one, and a piece of paper and a graphite stick for the second.

Also, map and compass and some woods work great for land nav. Start by hiking some well worn trails that are clearly mapped. Bring a GPS and test your map skills to see how accurately you can plot your position, and then check with the GPS. As you get better, work to getting into real wilderness if you are the survivor-type. Me, I have enough fun telling ghost stories around the campfire, so I don't really do much of any of the above unless I'm really bored.
