Consistent Primer Seating

There are really two questions I have:

How much does consistent primer seating matter?

And if consistency in this operation is truly critical, then what is the most consistent primer seating tool? (I understand that Primal Rights has two high end options here: http://www.primalrights.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=136

I went to the store and tested the handles to make sure they were a little comfy and looked for general straight-ness of the tube/rod motion. Scientific terms there...

RCBS is what I got, but down four boxes past three crooked looking ones.

I like the 21st Century priming tool. It’s adjustable for seating depth. It important to bottom out the primer and have it slightly below flush.

I have both the CPS light and full. Both are fast and precise and if you want to do the 180 conformation it only adds a 10th of a second/case to ease your mind. Prime in half the time.

I uniform the primer pocket and prime with a tool from Sinclair. Its sensitive enough that I can feel the primer seat.

This is what I have. Haven't used it yet and can't wait too, but it looks like they redesigned it already to be a bit more user friendly. May see if I can trade my 1st gen one for 2nd gen.

I've found that uniforming the primer pockets during the cleaning process aides in achieving a consistent seating depth.

I feel consistent primer pockets should be the first priority , then seating. I am a bit of a gear junkie , and have really enjoyed 21st Century Shooting , for high quality equipment . They have an adjustable primer pocket cutting tool , which you can adjust ,to get the bottom of the primer pocket corners cut squarely . This is the only primer pocket tool that I know of, that can be adjusted in a way that doesn't carve out more material than needed. They also offer a very nice primer seating tool . cheers

I have never uniformed a primer pocket. I only clean them if my primers start sticking out and causing hard chambering. I use an RCBS hand prime.

I'd have to second the CPS full. I've got one and the speed and consistency is incredible and makes up for the price point.

I also have not uniformed any primer pockets and so far haven’t seen a need to do so. I do hand clean the pockets each time though, just because. I also use an RCBS hand primer. I find that if I use a full and complete stroke every time, that the seating depth is very consistent

Cleaning them each time is a better solution than waiting for them to become a problem. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure. Messing with a batch of hard chambering ammo sucks.
