I'm starting on a build and am taking advantage of the Rock Creek GB for a barrel. Going to be a 6.5x55. Will pack in a lot and don't mind carrying a heavy-ish rifle but don't want a monster. Thinking of 22" but not sure about contour; considering #2, 3, or 4 sporter. Looking to maintain accuracy as much as possible without getting too cumbersome. Will be put into a McMillan, either the HTG or Remington Hunter. Any input is appreciated.

Re: Contour help

Skip the HTG - the comb is too low in general. The Rem hunter is a nice rifle, but is a bit large if using a slimmer-profile barrel.

A #4 is, in my mind, too large for a general-purpose hunter if you plan to do any carrying. A #3 at 22" won't be too bad, but a #2 or fluted #3 would, in my mind, be much more handy.

For the stock, I think you can do no better in a hunting rifle than a McMillan Remington Classic. It is very ergonomic, and much better suited to smaller contour barrels than the stocks you noted above.

Don't try to make a handy hunting rifle into a chunky tac rifle, or vice versa. You won't be happy in the long run.

Re: Contour help

#3 is about right for a hunting rifle. Don't the HTG and Classic have the same comb height? The comb on the Manners T is about 5/16" higher than the HTG.
