Gunsmithing Converting a .223 to .308

I tried to do a search and could no find what I was looking for.

I have a Rem 700 .223 VS. Can it be converted and if so is it worth converting to .308? Should I just buy a .308?

The bolt face has to be opened up or the whole bolt replaced. Either way you are better off just selling the 223 and buying the 308 action. Trust me, been there and done that.

If you are just looking to have a factory 308, then I also agree with the above. Sell what you have, and buy what you want. Or do like my sick self would do, just keep the 223, and buy another rifle in 308. Can't have to many rifles. Best of luck.

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure why I want another 308 so bad. I have two Savage 308s. I might hang on to the 223 and build it up into a custom gun. The longest range I currently have access to is about 600yds, so it should do fine with some modifications.

I just shot my 223 Remmington action/Rock Creek barrel in an 800 yd F Class match. I didn't win but I was competitive against the many 308s in the class. Keep and shoot your 223.

I was in the same situation. I sold the 700 sps tac .223 and bought an sps tac aac-sd.

Heh, why not just go list your scope! Then the mods can ban your dumb ass!!!
