Trying to figure out the best way to convert my TRG to a switch barrel in 6.5 Addiction. PVA makes switch barrels for the Tikka and has a 6.5A reamer I hear. Will those fit a TRG? If not, KRG makes a barrel nut and sells switch barrels for the TRG just not in 6.5A. I could potentially buy one in 260 Rem if they still have them (they arent listed anymore) and have it reamed out to 6.5A correct?

With the OEM 308 barrel off the TRG, wondering if it can be recut to fit the Tikka or TRG again as a switch barrel. The thing shoots lights out just not interested in a 308 for anything other than hunting anymore....

or you could ask KRG to send specs --- "email us about having the tenon thread spec and contour spec sent to your favorite gunsmith for them to cut you a barrel which then you can install if you are qualified. .."

I had emailed KRG and PVA both over the weekend. Sure i will here back today from both. Was just impatient trying to figure it out. Looks like Tikkas are usually 1"x16 so not going to work. but see what they say. Hopefully the OEm can still end up a switch barrel for one of them.

Ended up with the thread specs for the TRG/KRG barrel nut. Just need to find someone to cut me one in 6.5A now...Im certainly not a machinist so they dont mean as much to me. Still hoping the OEM 308 TRG barrel can be cut to a switch barrel for either rifle.

What size nut do they use for the lock nut?

M27x1.5 thread on a Savage style nut. Just need a Savage wrench. No taking the action out of the stock for a change. Seems like the most elegant solution. I probably should buy a barrel vice and action wrench for it but eliminates the need if someone else takes off the OEM barrel.

Just took a caliper to the bolt faces and TRG is .4855" and Tikka is .485". and the brass has a head diameter of .476" so should be fine. The Finns size to the European not US standard. If it didnt fit it could always be relieved a little bit anyway. Wont hurt going back to 308 cases.

As you discovered, the TRG and Tikka have different shank threads. It appears you have received the shank thread specs from us, it's M27x1.5mm, class 6g fit, for 1.5" from the face, then chamber for a min gauge at .135" off the barrel face.

If you can find a smith able to cut metric threads and who can pick up the existing thread on your .308 barrel, you can have him just extend the threads and use it with the barrel nut. Shouldn't be too difficult but you need to find a smith with good machining skills (many aren't good machininsts).

You will need our barrel nut wrench to be able to loosen the nut while it's in the stock. The Savage wrench wraps all the way around the barrel so with that one you have to pull the action.

    Thank you for your business.

Justin- thanks. Jeremy at PVA can do both and has the reamer so got it figured out. Just got the nut in the mail from you and will be picking up one of Marks 6.5CM barrels from you soon too when my wallet cools a bit from setting up this rifle. Wish you all had an action wrench rental for the TRG. Its a one time use item for me once the rifle becomes a switch barrel....
