Cooper Firearms Raptor Limited Production Rifle - 308 Win

photo.JPGphoto1.JPGWell, I took the leap and bought one. Here are some 100 yard results from just breaking in the barrel. I just hand loaded some 168 grain SMKs and 44 grains of Varget for barrel break in and got some great results. Can't wait to work up a load and bullet seating for even better groupings. The attached pic is a 5 shot group where I threw one. The brake is great. Recoil feels like my Savage 22-250. I can keep on target and see round impact target.

It's a pretty thing with a price tag to match from my limited searches. Never heard of them till your post. Any details about action being true from the factory, bedding, barrel material, rifling, etc. kinda sketchy and limited info concerning some of the subjects.
It looks like possibly an alternative to a custom for those not interested in building one up.
If nothing else, you maybe the only person packing one in most company. I kinda dig that. Initial performance isn't shabby, but load development may really turn it up. Good luck.

I hadn't heard of them either until a few months ago. I started looking into them and found nothing but good reports about their rifles. They are more into the varmint and hunting rather than the tacticals. Their barrels are made by Wilson Arms Company per their specs. The barrels are floated (I don't think bedded) and are lead lapped. I don't know whether the actions are trued. You are right they are an alternative to a custom build, but so far my rifle seems very accurate. If I measured right, the 5 shot grouping (excluding the one I threw) was about 0.3 MOA (0.5 - .308). This isn't using a worked up hand load. The build quality and tolerances are fantastic. I also like the fact it is unique and may be a rarity among the group.

I have a Cooper 6.5-284 Norma and the rifle shoots great...I have pics of the stick and targets but don't know how to attach pictures from my phone.
