The officer had every legal and moral right to shoot the violent thug who was trying to kill him. The thug driver deserved to die for his attempted murder. But ideally he should've shot from standing on ground when the car started moving toward him.
Most dept policies dont allow you to put yourself in the path of a car, then shoot the driver when they dont comply. Old school policing, ya that happened a lot, not any more.

Many departments allow officers to shoot a driver who is using a car as a deadly weapon against an officer or civilian. Do you support that reasonable use of force- or oppose it?
As an armed civilian, if I were chasing a thug who just committed a violent crime- I'd empty a mag into a car if that's what it took to stop him from fleeing.
That may be why he was stopped by LE, but that's not why he fled and attempted to kill an officer- he probably had an illegal gun, drugs, child porn, etc, in the vehicle and dumped it before they could apprehend him.
As an armed citizen, if you were not directly involved in the crime, as a victim or otherwise you would end up in prison in more than a few states.
Any idiot jumping on the hood of a car and hoping that will stop a scumbag, deserves the ambulance ride.
Be careful who you help, because the same cops who pat you on the back will be cuffing and stuffing you a few mins later.
Not what happened here. What happened here is akin to handing a bad guy a weapon, and then trying to justify you had cause to use deadly force. He forced a potential deadly force encounter, when it should have been merely a pursuit. You may disagree, but this is laid out very plainly in policy and law all over the country, and has been that way for a long time. This entire event was dumb as shit.
If someone is trying to run you down, and you have no escape, light the car up if you want(police or civilian). You step in front of a car and get all “Respect my authority”, and light the driver up, you're fucked.

My comments reflect my frustration at the decline of our republic- a serious decline due to the intentionally cancerous policies of, mainly, democrats. Democrat policies intentionally destroyed the nuclear family, freedom, American exceptionalism, masculinity, our history, our institutions, voter registration/election integrity...
In a sane America, we'd have no problem with an LEO using deadly force to stop a driver under these conditions (outstanding warrant for forgery). It's absurd the officer almost died because of the criminal behavior of that oxygen thief.
So yeah, I'm for a sea change in our country- a move back to sanity and logic, max freedoms for us tax paying law abiding Citizens, harsh treatment of criminals, long prison sentences, quick executions, and a huge expansion of the ROE in which Citizens and LE can use deadly force against the criminal element. Why should government have a monopoly on violence as an effective tool to reduce crime?
There are just way too many criminals, illegal aliens, and visa overstayers walking free amongst us.
Bullets are cheap- we just need the laws to change to allow the necessary purge to take place. It's time Americans took back our constitutional republic from the Democrats and RINOs.

Can't say I disagree. Problem is I used to think conservatives and liberals were a 50/50 split in the US. Or I'd even buy the 40/40/20 model where 40% are hardline in either corner and the remaining 20% sit on the fence and swing the vote based on their whims that election cycle.
What I've seen the last 8ish years has me rethinking that very much. I think the libs VASTLY outnumber conservatives in the US and it's getting worse by the day.
