Gunsmithing Correct barrel blank length??

So order a 30". Good chance your gunsmith owns and even uses a tape measure. He probably has a parting tool for his lathe as well.
Of course you will be paying twice for the extra metal. Once to Bartlien for the blank and again to the gunsmith for removal.
Why not ask your gunsmith what he prefers?

The extra length required depends on the finished bore dimensions. A properly lapped bore won’t have more than 1” of belling. So, a 29” blank can be finished at 28”.
Cheers,

29" is a very common length for people who stock Bartlein barrels to have on the shelf.
A 30" blank probably has a 6 month lead time.
Yes, it will finish at 28", as long as you don't remove any length from the shank end.
