So I realize the COTI isnt comparable to a true HMT. But, its a tool I keep considering, especially because the ECOTI is out of my price range.

I was talking with recon sniper last night and he brought up the question about how long a COTI/ECOTI can be on before it starts to burn a tube, if thats even possible.

Curious to hear others experience since if damage could happen. If thats possible, i will quickly be talked out of a future purchase.

Keep the settings like they are supposed to be and you will not have any tube damage. Point being the Gain as a general statement needs to be set around the middle of the movement range of the adjustment nob.

The COTI is best run in Outline Mode. Point being you don't want your I2 NV all cluttered up with thermal image. At least I dont.

You want your settings such that basically all that lights up on thermal is something that is alive.

Set as described above, most of the time no thermal image is even being projected into your NV tube.

However, always remember this, any light source that stays in one spot on your NV tube for too long can cause damage.

Length of time depends on the strongness of the light source and your particular tube. They all different in that regard.

Only real danger is if you leave both NOD and COTI on and coupled when stowed or, as WHN stated, you crank the thing up and leave it cranked for extended periods.

Basically, you’d have to be an idiot.

One of my friends is thinking of selling his locally. He bought it from TNVC at the 5k+ price before EuroOptic dumped them on the market. For 2k ish i would play around with one but he wants closer to 2700 without the pvs31a battery cable.

Dont have the COTI setting constantly way too high. Don't have the gain setting on the PVS way too low.

    It'll be fine otherwise.

Worse case if you get an artifact image, take the COTI off when back and stick the PVS in its storage bag and leave it running for 6-8 hours to clear the image.
