Could I make this into a cool “clone”?

This is my old patrol rifle. COLT LE6920 with 16” barrel and carbine gas. I’ve planned on selling it, but I just don’t like selling rifles. It has the LE/MIL restricted markings. I’m definitely not interested in an MK18 clone. I’d hope for something at least 13.7” I’m opening to cutting down the barrel or swapping it.. or even converting to piston. Barrel probably has less than 1k rounds through it. I’m really just looking for a cool clone look perhaps with one of the KAS RIS rails. It’s just so boring. I’ve got a 14.5” piston that is awesome. Also open to maybe using a different caliber? It’s purely the look I’d be interested in.

Whatever you do, put an FRT in it.
Lol!! I won’t respond to that.. but we are on the same page. I found a “look” I liked. It’s not really a clone of anything, but it will be cool looking especially with the little “restricted” touch. I’d never seen the Daniel Defense RIS III, so I think I’m going in that direction.

While not a clone AT ALL, I came up with a plan that involves using my Colt restricted receiver set into the 14.5” piston setup and leaves the Vltor MUR and ADM UIC receivers for a 13.9” (likely) 6.5 Grendel build.

The biggest change will be that I’m going to cerakote the receivers (after complete disassembly) and the Geissele 13.5” MK4 in E140 Foliage cerakote. Going with an ODG UBR Gen2. I’m going to add an FCD ambi mag release that matches the Seekins bolt catch to make it a little closer to ambi with a Radian Raptor / Talon. I’m going to stick with the Geissele SSP trigger. I’ll get some pics up as soon as I get things cerakoted and can start assembly. Should be a fun use for that set that frees up the other upper/lower for a SBR piston 6.5 Grendel with the Daniel Defense RIS III 12.5” rail.

With my snarky comment out of the way, a Block 2 build is peak Colt imho.

Good luck with your build.
Crap… I hadn’t seen these.. if I were to put the Daniel Defense RIS III on this I’d be pretty close (I know they used RIS II, but no way am I going back to a quad rail on a rifle I’d actually use). My Colt upper has the keyhole markings if I remember correctly.
If I did that I’d either need a longer barrel to work with the 13.5” Geissele MK4 or another shorter rail. I though the Geissele MK4 was pricey until I saw that the Daniel Defense RIS III is $440.

I like quad rails so maybe that’s why I like the Block 2’s so much. The SAM-R builds are only a cunt hair behind in looks and certainly out perform the block 2’s from an accuracy standpoint.

@sinister is the guru when it comes to the SDM-R.

Geissele Mk16 Rail and chop to 14.5, for a URGI. Done.

So I made some progress. More than I should have. This far the build is

Colt “restricted” upper and lower
Daniel Defense 12.5” RIS III rail
*these will be cerakoted with E140*
Magpul UBR in OD green
Magpul K2+ in OD green
Radian Raptor/Talon
FCD ambi mag release
Geissele SDE trigger
Superlative Arms piston system MLGS
POF roller cam pin
Seekins bolt catch
Craddock RTR 13.9” 6.5 Grendel
HUXWRX 762 flash hider

The idea that this sort of kind of will be sort of like a Block II but a different caliber :)
I was also hoping to use this in some of those run and gun events where targets range from 20 - 600 yards.
I’m thinking a MPVO with a 12 O clock RDS. I’ve never done this combo before.
I’m thinking an ADM Delta cantilever mount with a diving board mount. I was leaning towards the Steiner T6XI 2.5-15 with a 50mm objective or a Steiner T6XI 3-18 with a 56mm objective. Although I’d prefer a NF 4-16, I can get the Steiners for around $1350-$1400. I’m leaning towards the 2.5-15 due to weight and trying to keep the Trijicon SRO as reasonably close to bore as possible although I plan to zero it for 50 yards.

Thoughts?
I plan to cerakote over the weekend assuming the rail arrives on time. I’ll post some pics when I’m done. This is my first time cerakoting receivers and rail as I’m a perfectionist and the results must be perfect.

I haven’t ordered the barrel yet as they were OOS last I checked and I have a cumulative “bill” due around beginning of June of a little over 16k. I’m not being very responsible.

So… I wanted something darker than the Elite Jungle so I added some Elite Blackout. I’ll spare you the details, but the color didn’t come out as I’d hoped. I’ll get some pics in the light when I get it assembled. It’s like a grey/blue/green and crazy glossy. It feels like glass. The coverage was perfect thankfully. The Craddock 13.9” 6.5 Grendel barrel is on the way along with the last few “gun parts”. Optics will have to wait a while.

Barrel isn’t here yet, but everything else is installed. The rail obviously isn’t installed, but I wanted to get a feel for how it would look. It’s a 12.5” Daniel Defense RIS III and I’ve got the 13.9” barrel on the way.

I was concerned that the FCD mag release wouldn’t drop the mag 100% of the time since it doesn’t seem to have much movement, but it’s 100% even with an empty mag. Forgive the smudges. It’s a very high gloss finish.

One thing I learned the hard way with coatings like Cerakote, or any thick application to the lower receiver, was that build-up inside the mag catch slot prevented mag release when using a loaded magazine sometimes.

I had to file down some of my mag catch slots to get them to function, so it’s something I added to my personal checklist.

I think I read a thread where you mentioned that.. which resulted in me covering up the inner portions of the upper and lower and areas where clearance may be tight... so thank you for that. The E series also appears to go on much thinner
