What are some good tips or tricks to bringing in coyotes on a small stretch of land. I have a hunting fire zone that is about 150 yds long by 50 yds wide. There is more land but this is the safest place to shoot.

Would you do the same steps as you would for hunting open fields or do you change it up? Do you use dead rabbits as bait? Just use calls? What would you do?

Coyote Calling 101:
  1. Approach stand QUIETLY with the wind in your favor. If you can't, then don't bother making it... cuz you just broadcast your presence to the countryside.
  2. Set your call in a place that allows the coyote 'safe' path to get to the call. Not 100% critical, but giving the coyote a 'safe' approach is one less reason for it to ignore you. Give them a safe lane, and most times, they'll take it!
  3. More importantly, set your call so that a coyote MUST expose itself to get downwind of the sound! This is likely where you will kill it, so this is the area where you can favor your focus (and rifle) toward
  4. DON'T MOVE. If you have to move to get on target, do so when the coyote is also moving...
  5. Shoot the coyote(s) at the first decent opportunity, before it gets downwind.
#3 is where the art of coyote calling comes into play. Experienced callers can look over an area and set a stand so that a coyote literally walks right into a pre-determined kill zone. That is what helps take the difficulty out of #5. Your gun is already favored to that area, so its a piece o' cake to get on the coyote quickly and make a good shot...

Its a beautiful thing to set a trap and watch them stroll right into it! Lots of learning involved, but most of it is just adhering to the basics, above. You don't need bait, don't need scent, don't even need a decoy...just learn how to set that trap. And make sure you're have fun while doing it!!!

Good luck!
