For my first post I present you all a problem that I haven't seen or heard of before. Some how the pistol part of my stock cracked on my TRG-22. It's never been dropped that I know of and for sure not while I have owned it. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this before?

FYI am not the first owner of this gun but it was in good condition when I bought it and don't believe that it was ever mishandled. It probably has about 1500 rounds through it if that matters as well. I plan on calling Beretta tomorrow and seeing what to do but would like to hear you guy's thoughts first. Thanks.

Eric:

Shot with guy this weekend who's TRG22 stock broke in exactly the same place. His was almost brand new when it happened (only a couple days old). A quick call to Beretta revealed they had a bad production run. Didn't sound like too many faulty stocks left the factory though, and they promptly shipped him a new one. If you are not satisfied with the new TRG stock, XLR builds a chassis for your rifle.

Don't think it has anything to do with how tight the action screw was. Just a manufacturing flaw that effected a few units. Again, I was told Beretta is well aware of the problem and will make it right with the customer.

**Disclaimer: I have never owned a TRG or talked to ayone at Beretta. I am only sharing information that I got from a TRG owner this weekend. Oh, and if I was going to buy a factory rifle, it would probably be a TRG.

Thats not nice dude! I know several people and some of them arnt easy on there TRG22's. They haven't managed to do that, I'd agree its a manufacture problem and most places's should fix it to stop any bad publicity

Eric, I'm not a TRG owner but I do seem to recall afew posts on the Hide over the years about stocks cracking......maybe worth doing a search to check it out? Sorry to hear of the problem, it;'s never a nice feeling when shit happens!

I have a friend who had the same thing happen with a TRG in .338. He ended up having to bed the rifle in a mcmillan a-5. Gun shoots great and no cracking ...

UPDATE--

Thanks to Jon, I was able to get in touch with a spokesman for Berreta today without having to deal with the customer service run around. He was pleasant and asked for the serial number and color and pictures. He acted like they were going to take care of it for me but I never heard back from him. Maybe expecting too much to hear back from him today I guess? Hopefully it won't take too long and I'll try and stay patient.

I asked if this was a common problem and he said he had seen a few cases but generally with .338's. He seemed to think that it was an issue with how the stock was attached and if not perfectly done it would cause a pressure point and crack.

Thanks for the support and I'll keep everyone updated as it develops.

UPDATE:

Well TRG fans, Beretta did me right. Waiting for me when I got home was a new stock all pretty and green and made me wish the rest of the gun felt that new. Beretta probably received the stock last Tuesday the 5th and managed to get it back to me today which I think is a pretty good turn around. Anyways my confidence is restored for now and hopefully it shoots as good as it did before.

I do have a question for everyone though... How tight do I tighten the screws to? Or where would I find this information. I have a wrench that works in inch pounds so if you could tell me in that unit it would be best.

Thanks again for everyone's support, esp Jon Lester, and I do have pics of the naked stock if anyone is interested in seeing what it looks like torn down and where the aluminum "backbone" is visible.

yes post the pics as I haven't taken down my 42 yet so I would be curious to what the ALU chassis would look like.

Eric where did you send the old stock to?

I just had to send my rifle Midwest Gun Works for a trigger repair. Why I had to send in the rifle, I have no clue. It's 1 bolt that holds in the trigger assembly! It's on the way back to me and hopefully I should have it by the weekend.

as in town down, are you just talking about the small aluminum tabs that stick out of the stock that bolts to the receiver, or did you tear all the plastic off the aluminum frame and expose the whole thing?

i work in radiology and would just love to xray the stock and see what the aluminum frame looks like hidden in there under the plastic. id get canned in a heart beat though, so ill have to speculate.

Well from what i can see is just the aluminum tabs. I have to assume that it is the frame for the stock and that the "green stuff" is molded around it. I would have loved to hack the old one to bits and see exactly how it was constructed but they wanted it back and it was cheaper than buying a new one. I will send it to you to x-ray when it gets too cold to shoot if you really want to experiment on it.

I also have a TRG-22 bought her used here in awsome shape and shoot's lke a laser I would be entertained with the stock skeleton pictures. Mine has a 1500 or so down the tube and no cracks. Love the gun. I have dealt with Bretta on other issues with other guns with great results.

I've never heard of any TRG stock broken down in civvies hands but I do in military hands , many TRG 22 & 42 stocks broken down in Italian army but just because of the hard use , however that's very strange to be happened to a civvie gun , happy you got it fixed so quickly though .

I had a green TRG that had the same problem in the same place.I called Beretta and they said they could not help me.I bought a replacement stock from Alex at Euro optics.Im glad they did you right but I would not expect it every time.
