Crescent Custom's Moon had triple Bighorns!!!

For those that have not heard. Moon of GA Precision has gone out on his own. His new shop is called Crescent Customs. Since Moon was the one that built my dad's, and my GAP 7wsm's. Thought I would stick with him on these builds. I had three buddies that were wanting some lightweight hunting rifles. So I called and got all the parts together to send Moon's way. As always to turned out great. I was really impressed with APA's bottom metal and their micro break. The break really knocks the kick down to nothing. I still need to get a picture of all three together. All three are the same. Win Brass,CCI-BR2 primers, 65G H1000, 180 Berger vld's 2930fps

What a pair! VERY nice hunting rigs. Weight as pictured? The high desert shooting range reminds me of where I grew up - Grand Junction.

Shot this 6 shot group at 1004 yard this mourning trying to get some dope on the gun. The black dot is two inches. First shot was low left. Dialed up one click and right one click. Second shot was still left. Two more clicks right for wind, then the group of four was how it ended up. Great work Moon!

What thread pitch is the micro/30P-1 on yours? What did the muzzle diameter end up being at 22" on that barrel contour? Thanks!

The thread is 9/16 24 on the micro and the 30p-1.

Thanks. So to follow up if it is not too much trouble:

I assume that 1.) All concerned felt that the thread tpi of 9/16 x 24 was good to go for that barrel, brake, and suppressor? 2.) You had to get the brake and suppressor done custom for that thread by the respective manufacturers (as it appears that is not a standard thread pitch/tpi for either)?

I am building a set of 7WSM rifles as well with nearly identical specs/parts to yours and had just figured on no suppressor, but if all the above is correct (which it appears to be given the existence of your rifles ha!) then I am gonna go the same route as you. Thanks for the info...I will also contact the respective companies and the gentleman building the rifle, but having a successful example is always nice.

Side question, when you say "180 Bergers" which version are you talking about? Hunting, Match VLD, or Match Hybrid? Do you use just the one bullet for hunting and targets (I ask seeing you have other threads detailing hunts with a 7WSM and a 180 Berger, and seem to have been using that cartridge/load combo for some time with continued success). Thanks again.

Yes we had to get the Thunderbeast threads changed to 9/16x24. That is what the micro break came with. They did tell us that we may have a lot of poi shift with that skinny of a barrel. Really wont know until we shoot them with the suppressor. None of these three gun are mine personal ones. I just got all the parts and work with Moon to get them build. I also did all the load development and got the dope for two of the guns as well. We just use the hunting Berger 180vld's all the time.

Well one of the guns had its first kill Monday mourning here in Utah county. 506 yards 7wsm 180 vld. Bang drop.

Since you got all the parts together, what was Moon's turn around time for the builds?

It think it scored 370.

Turn time was about 3 weeks on the three guns.

Did the load development end up around 65gr of H1000 behind those 180gr Bergers?

Im curious, what was your base to ogive measurment? I have a GAP built 7wsm (post Moon) and I'm touching the lands at 2.2455". I wonder if Moon uses an identical reamer that GAP uses on their 7wsm builds?

My build was assigned to Moon but unfortunately he left before he was able to get to it. It still shoots lights out as one would expect from GAP.

Sweet rifles first off, how much do they weight? Do you have any issue ejecting a live round with those long 180 bergers in a short action?

They are 10lbs as they sit with bipod and stock pack.
They cycle great. OAL is so they fit in the mag, so no problems with live rounds.

The fact that you are getting such great velocity out of such a short barrel is amazing. 22" is perfect in my opinion as far as being handy without losing too much velocity.
