CT assault weapon laws?

As some of you may have seen from my other post, I am looking into getting a noveske ar15 and I am trying to make sure to abide by the laws of my state (CT). I have two major questions. Is the flash hider pinned to the barrel no longer a "flash suppressor" by CT law and therefore legal? Also could I put a pin in the Vltor imod stock that would fix the stock in place, so that it is no longer considered "telescoping" and therefore legal? I've been trying to read through CT assault weapon laws and in a lot of ways it seems very cryptic, so if any of you CT gun law gurus could chime in that would be great.

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

Noveske uses a flash hider which is illegal. You would need a muzzle brake pinned/welded as well as the stock pinned. Both need to be done BEFORE entering the state, or transferred to a gunsmith that will make it compliant before legally transferring it to you.

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

Yeah that was kind of what I suspected, thanks for the responses. I think I may try to get AAC 51T brake since noveske stocks it and see if they can pin it for me while they are at it, since I know they normally pin their flash suppressors. Does CT require a specific way for the muzzle brake and stock to be pinned in order for it to be legal?

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

there is nothing specific on the books - just "permanently attached".

brake can be silver soldered, but pinned and welded is the typical.

stock would have to be blind pinned to be legal. Meaning drill a hole into the flat area of the buffer tube but not all the way through it. Then drive a roll pin into it and cover it with some black epoxy. This way the pin can not be driven back out and is considered permanant

I have had pretty inconsistent results with JB weld, mixed it pretty thoroughly too. I would hate to catch an AWB violation for crappy JB Weld, pay a good smith to solder it on.

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

Jojo's can turn your flash hider into a brake, Jodi did one of mine and it came out great, works real nice. But they have to permanently attach it. Also your stock must be permanently pinned.

I know I feel much safer now...It's a bunch of BS!

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

JB WELD , Rocksett, etc...ARE Not considered a legal way to attatch a brake in CT. Only pinning/welded or silver soldered. As far as gunsmiths, I've got a good one that is fantastic, cheap, and quick.

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

I lived in CT in the '80's and early 90's. Things have changed

Well I don't plan on staying here much longer. In fact pretty soon I'll be going wherever the army sends me. Maybe one day I can retire out West, it has always been kind of a dream of mine.

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

I agree. I was born and raised here and as soon as I retire my wife and I will be heading out.

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

Maybe you'll get to go to Fort Benning and then you can own one of those evil devices that makes it so you don't have to wear ear protection when you are shooting. Because remember....if you have a supressor, it's really a silencer and Big Brother can't hear you

. All jokes aside, thank you for your service.

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

You can own supressors in CT. It's the way they classify an assault rifle that kills it for semi auto rifles. I'm not sure about pre-bans.

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

What barrel length are you thinking of? If it is less than 16 inches, then it needs to be pinned to bring the total length to 16 inches unless you go the SBR route. If your barrel length is 16 inches without the muzzle device, not sure it needs to be pinned. Also, if you go the SBR route, you may be able to run a collapsible stock since it now falls into the SBR category - not 100% sure.

Re: CT assault weapon laws?

My sympathies on your build. I was looking for a 16" 7.62x39 AR (lefty compliant) for a while. Once I ran the numbers I figured out that I could just have one built for the same price as picking one up and having it modded to CT's AWB standards.

For those not in CT, the removable mag is one strike, the pistol grip is a strike, the muzzle break is a strike, etc. It's really lame.

It does. Can't have the threaded muzzle.

Here's a link to a break down with the named weapons and the list of features that make the others "evil".
