So I joined the army as a medic and went to iraq and Afghanistan to bring home our men and women alive, I did my best and think I did a decent job.
However when you have to watch/listen to kids being raped or beaten and not allowed to intervene, yes that is fucked up. That's their culture you speak of and NO we weren't allowed to do anything about it.
One day our whole route clearance package had to watch a woman get beaten in the middle of the street by 3 guys. It was horrific because they were beating her to a pulp. I'm sure she either died or is now living as a cripple. I wish we were able to "instill our will" that day, however I have to live with that for the rest of my life now.

i remain in awe of the foresight, appreciation and efforts in recognizing and securing inalienable rights.....regardless of race, religion, creed. I really love this country and what it stands for. I pray that if something like this were ever to befall us or our loved ones, perhaps someone might stand up for us.
That in my opinion is why the entire episode in the sandbox will in the future prove to have done little to fix the problems over there, or problems that come our way because of it.
We could have changed their culture much like we did to a great extent with the Japanese after WWII, we simply said this is the way it's going to be from now on.
We could have used enough force without hesitation or compromise for about the same 20 year period, maybe a bit more, to force a change to religious liberty and human rights, giving a whole generation the chance to grow up accustomed to those norms and having the political will and weapons to ensure the crazed religious zealots didn't turn the place back into a mess.
I don't disagree with your statement. But, it's not our culture it's theirs. And it's not like kids are being kidnapped. They are raised to believe that this is perfectly acceptable in their culture.
If this bothers you then there's a religion that just needs to be completely abolished for the rape and abuse of Altar Boys.
it's so hard for me to accept that despite countless examples, countless years, countless opportunities, countless religions, lessons, faiths, philosophies, tragedies and pain we continue to effect these horrors on each other.

Yes, I went back to edit my original post to include religion. I knew someone would bring up the abuses of the Roman Catholic Church. So let me be clear, yes evil should be confronted whenever and wherever found without prejudice or excuse. And yes, when the weakest and most vulnerable are exploited and harmed it bothers me. Religion is not the reason for humanity's evil, only an excuse.
